well I just returned a dell 8600 ..no legacy ports...
Am looking at the Latitude D800 with the DOthan 755. Was considering the Fujitsu, but read bad things here about their quality. Don't like their xps or 9100 version as they only put Prescotts in them now and I do not like the prescotts, and neither has the legacy ports.
WOuld like IBM, but they don't have very much in the way of customizing, and they also do not offer the dothan 755.
Would consider a dothan 755 or a 3.2ghz NORTHWOOD processor unit, but that would be about it. I do a lot of digital photography and digital video and multitasking..no gaming really.
I want a quality laptop and one that is sturdy and if possible made out of alloy instead of all plastic...I know, I know, I am describing the IBM...but they don't offer the 755 and there are a couple other items I want that they don't offer as being customizable.
I love dell's 4 year complete/accidental care warranty as it came in handy with my I8200. IBM has something similar to it.
I have looked also at acer, toshiba, sony, and asus..Asus was one of the other that I may have considered but not a very good warranty.
I also looked at Prostar and Sagar...favoring the Prostar, but both are really the same laptop...but again not the complete care warranty and i DO NOT like the 5 minimum dead pixel is industry std policy...If I pay 3k for a laptop then I do NOT want 1 dead pixel and also both of these for service have to go back to the manufacture, not the reseller, and have not read much good about either's CS...but their laptops as far as options are closer to what I want.
Not interested in alienware or any of those with those different color paints jobs...that is not what I really care about.
I know there are adapters for laptops without serial and parallel ports but the whole idea of a laptop is to be portable and not have to carry a bunch of extra crap around.
So......any advice or thoughts on good durable dependable laptop? ANy ideas if ibm is going to come out with a 755? and when? thanks..t
