Most likely it was a Ukraine missile system trying to get revenge after Russia shot down one of its fighters a few days ago. I see this one being hushed over by Obama and his CIA operatives.

Yeah, and that was with an air to air missile even.

Someone on the other thread posted how they still did flights over areas if those weren't being used, but they are there and they still were doing commercial flights.

It is getting harder and harder to fly in SE Asia, since Lion Air and pretty much every other Indonesian airline should be avoided.

When I fly within Indonesia I stick with Garuda Airlines and when I'm flying into/out of Indonesia I usually use Singapore Air or Silk Air (subsidiary of Singapore Air)

That was an easy decision for the FAA to make, because I doubt any normally scheduled US flight flew over that airspace, since US Flag Carriers can't do Europe to Asia routes.

The FAA would have a much harder time closing air space over Eastern Canada, for example.

BTW, another example: Delta and United Air do New York -> Tel Aviv nonstop, wouldn't be surprised if there were other Middle East (aka ASIA) examples.

Its a publicly traded company that is majority owned by the Malaysian government. If you are the majority owner of a company that means you have a pretty substantial say in how its run right?

So presumably if the Malaysian government cared about people not being blown up by SAMs they could make sure the planes were routed around areas that was likely to happen.

You really think that Obama should start a major war with Russia (which neither he nor Putin would actually fight) to prove he's not scared? He's a six foot tall black man who happens to be POTUS - surely he's above sacrificing others in a dick measuring contest.

And I remind you that he DID move F-117s into theater, an unmistakable sign that if necessary, he was willing to stop further Russian aggression with military force. Considering that Ukraine would be totally devastated in a war between Russia and America, surely that's enough of a response. It appeared to work anyway.

My whole comment about Europe to Asia flights meant that I understand great circle routing and about the only flights that would fly through Eastern Ukraine, i.e. the air space banned by the FAA, would be flying Europe to Asia. NA to Asia or NA to Europe wouldn't fly over the Ukraine on normal scheduled routes.

I also said I doubt there were any scheduled US flights over that airspace, I never said I knew for a fact none did, and there may be one flight out there that does. Regardless the FAA closing that air space would have almost no impact on US flag carriers, where if EASA closed that airspace it would've had a larger impact on EU carriers. That could be why the FAA was more proactive than EASA.

We can determine that it did indeed come from Russian anti-air weapons.
We can strengthen world resolve to keep or strengthen sanctions against Russia.
We can hold firm for the protection of Ukraine until we can work out a long term agreement.

Basically, this is a ribbon to stick on our negotiating badge table in Eastern Europe.
