If the GOP is concerned about how they might be distasteful to potential future voters they always have the option to put forward policies that aren't as distasteful to those groups.
The rich reps want the illegals here for cheap labor. The dem elite (also rich) want them here to get them normalized in society, i.e., registered to vote dem. Neither of the party elite actually care about these people.

Migrants gain the right to apply for asylum once they enter the American territory between the actual border & Customs/ immigration checkpoints. If they can't get there, they can't apply. Catch22, Baby!
One thing I hadn’t considered enough before this administration is just how much our law depends on the executive branch making at least a token effort to enforce the law in good faith.
