Legally every single one of these people can apply anywhere across the border for asylum, not just at Trump Approved Sites for those who don't know the law.
So whoever is left of the 7200 who don't die along the way or get arrested (like the few troublemakers) will get here and Trump and his supporters can go pound sand or add another charge to the impeachment articles after midterms, but they are legally able to apply and "turning them away" is not legal.

Applying for asylum at a consulate means an endless stream of catch22 paperwork, I'm sure. Which doesn't get you anywhere for a long time, if ever. When you show up at a border crossing, they have to deal with you directly. They have to take you in, even if you're just locked up until deported. They literally throw themselves at our mercy, such as it is.
