I have never seen an ipod mini so I dont know how it compares to the normal ipod. Didnt like the normal one that much, was rather large but most of all it was very heavy and the internal hd wasnt realy that silent when it was spinning up. What I realy like about the ipod is the space, that way I could use it in the car and everywhere else for that matter without having to worry about running out of music. With the melodistick I realy like that its small, has an fm tuner and can be upgraded (first flash based mp3 player that I like).

For working out the melodistick has a clear advantage because of size and not having an internal hd.

iPod minis have a known problem with crackling audio (or, less commonly, total audio loss). This is because of a cheap connection between the headphone jack and the PCB that tends to break within a month or two of use. Source. These two players aren't a very close comparison though... The price and capacity are very different. I'd go with the flash player for exercising because of the problem I mentioned and because hard drives simply aren't meant to be shaken, and it might shorten the player's life. The latter isn't an iPod-specific problem, just the nature of hard drives - I wouldn't go with any hdd-based player for exercising.

Didn't notice, was the first mention of it I found on google... looking closer now, and I don't see anything mentioning resolution of the problem, so I'd assume nothing has changed.

I purchased a RIO Karma and love it. It is a bit on the flimsy side, but has handled being dropped a few times on the tread mill. I PM'ed at circuit city with a Walmart ad for only 250. 20 gig and sounds great!

You could've gotten a Creative Muvo2 4GB for that money (Stick + SD card).
Also - that MelodiStik looks pretty cheap-built - just my opinion though.

i live in iceland so a creative muvo costs me... a whole lot more, even the local apple store tells customers not to buy their ipods, but instead get it at the duty free store at the airport. The dutyfree price is that $350 for the ipod mini, $450 or more if its store bought.

Oh my! Well then perhaps you made the right choice! Hope the MolodiStik looks better in real than it does in the pics.
A nice tactic is to have someone who goes to the US grab you one there (I live in Bulgaria so this is what I do if I don't want to pay 2x for a digital camera for example).
