I'm thinking of upgrading my Q6600 rig. Upgrade reasons are to better position myself for BF3 and Virtual Machine (start out 8GB then to 16GB). Please review the hardware I'm thinking of replacing. I'd like to be able to use the LucidLogix Virtu. My card is DVI only so would this still work (sandy HDMI and 8800Gt DVI)?

New
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop
Intel Core i5-2500K
ASRock Z68 PRO3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68

Exiting
PNY 8800GT (upgrade soon)
Seagate 320GB Sata Drive (ST3320620AS)
Corsair 850W Power Supply
CM-690 Case
Corsair H50 CPU Cooler
Dell 24inch Monitor (hdmi, dvi, vga)

Taken from the Virtu home page which doesn't give much info but it kinda maybe to me looks like your current card isn't supported at all....But if you look at the nvidia naming it would make a person wonder wtf

Pretty sure it's suppost to be 2xx, 4xx, 5xx series of cards. If you look at downloads it does look like it'll support AMD's 6xxx also.
  • Allow customers to choose from the most popular AIBs from NVIDIA (2000, 4000 and 5000 series) and AMD ATI (4,000 and 5,000 series)

DVI is output I think, so it has nothing to do with motherboard, but with display. I could be mistaken though.

Should I use the SSD for OS or Enhancement to Standard HD?

I'd say use it for HDD "acceleration." I tried the Black Caviar on my Z68 build, and an SATAIII doubled -- short of tripling -- the HDD standalone performance.

Further, I suggest you try both 20GB and 64GB cache-sizes initially, and run a benchmark like CrystalDiskMark against each -- just one time. I suspect you will actually get better performance from the smaller cache-size. But at least, you have an SSD that can be used exclusively for the ISRT acceleration.

Even so, if you choose the 20GB cache size, then partition the remaining SSD and create simple formatted volume. When it asks to assign a drive label, you could choose to make it available under a folder-name on the Black Caviar.

Also, keep an eye on the configuration for a while. And to avoid panic and puzzlement, make sure that the SSD properties have "sleep" mode turned off. If you overclock the system the way some of us are doing, you'll probably want to disable sleep-mode altogether.

I think I'm going to setup the SSD drive like aszu posted for Cache & Data (Win7,etc.) on the same drive.

For the cache do I pick 18gb?

It is tricky to set up, but I would allocate the max cache of 20GB, then partion the rest as a new drive and install ur OS and basic/most common apps on it. Then install all major programs/games on the WD drive /w SRT.

System is together. I'm running on a 64GB SSD without SRT for now. I just ordered a 128GB that I will use for SRT and OS. I've very pleased with the Asus board. I haven't started my overclocking yet but I see the boost to 3.7 using Asus utils. Temps around 32 with an H50.

The board came with 2 sets of 2 cables. Two of them are Angled and using at Sata III and the other two were straight. Are these cables the same just with differend ends?

Its best to use the 128GB stand-alone for the operating system and use the 64GB drive - + 750GB for SRT. Using the 128GB for SRT is a total waste as the max cache size is 64GB. Your long term performance of SRT will be higher using the 64GB cache size vs 20GB because it will hold more in the cache.

You should be able to hit 4.5 with little effort. My suggestion is to use differential voltage overclocking and make sure you keep all C-States enabled. Lastly, use anything but the high power profile in Win 7 as it will disable speedstep, resulting in the CPU running at 4.2GHz all the time and using alot of unnecessary power.
