Better Cooling and better OC wooohoo. I just bought 1.

Go read the AT (as well as many others actually)....you'll see it isn't just 2 fps.

I will agree that it is a damned good price for the card though.

Yes! Now, now that we have reasonably priced video cards, get to work on CPUs so we can have a <$200 Q9300!

Who needs that when you now have < $200 Q6600's (although the 45nm is nice)

I did my wallet a favor and closed the Newegg link (posted above). If I stare at it, I'll buy it.

The GTX260 for $230 is a super card at a great price...but I've gotta be strong.

I have a genuine good feeling about the 1GB HD4870's. After the initial price gouging is over, they will be THE card to get at the $300 pricepoint. The 512MB versions are already at the $250 (after MIR) pricepoint and the price will drop further once the 1GB's hit the street.

Here in Denmark, the cheapest gtx260 is a XFX gtx260 for 400 bucks..the hd 4870 however can be purchased for 350. I wonder why the gtx260 is cheaper than a hd 4870 in USA but not in Europe? :S

Newegg plays around with pricing quite a bit; using their site as a pricing gauge is not an exact science by any means. 4870 prices have come down as well, esp with current rebates.

By mid August, I'm betting we'll see both GTX 260 and 4870 512mb prices hovering at $260-$270 without rebates. Curious to see where 4870 1gb will be and where GTX 280 will be mid August. I'm guessing $400 for GTX 280. Whatever anyone ends up choosing, this is a buyer's market for sure.

Oh... I posted about what to do with a GTX 260 I grabbed for $299.. I ended up shipping it back still sealed and glad I did. I've resolved (with great difficulty) to wait till mid August!!

I think I would've done the same. There is no telling how much the prices will drop by then. And to be honest, is there enough demanding games except crysis which warrants a new gfx purchase at this point? Not if you ask me. WIth that being said, I still use one hour each day to check out hardware forums for news on graphics cards , how sad.

Looks like a sweet deal and even better if you can swing the $30 rebate. $255 for a factory OC 260 before rebates!!!

For some reason when I apply the code it says invalid, any one know why?

EDIT: Just went through customer service and they honored the promo code.

Apparently Nvidia doesnt mind selling at a loss as long as they can slow down sales of 48xx cards

Sucks for AMD, since Nvidia actually has more than enough money to do it

Sounds like a smart business plan to me. They have the cash to do it like you said. Also, thier stock already took the beating once investors realized that the GT200 was over-priced at launch and NV would have to trim the margins bigtime on it.

And the consumers win! Right now is an amazing time to build a rig.

How are they selling at a loss? Do you have a document that shows their profit margins on each chip?

How do you know AMD is not taking a huge loss on the 4xxx series? One they certainly can't afford right now.

I think AMD shot themselves in the foot selling the 4xxx series so cheaply. They are already bleeding money at an alarming rate.

He said Nvidia doesn't mind selling at a loss, which is different from saying that they are selling at a loss (which is how you seem to have interpreted it)

One might not be able to say that Nvidia is selling at a loss, buts its clear that they are selling at much below their projected price point - two price cuts in succession is evidence of that. Nvidia has lost more than $3bn in market cap since the beginning of July and they are definitely not swimming in money.

AMD on the other hand could possibly have sold the 48xxx for higher, but they have priced them at the point that they feel suits them. Given that AMD is on life support, I seriously doubt they are selling them at a loss though.

AMD has yet done the absolute right thing as far as selling the 48xx series cards at the current price model.
AMD can't no longer afford to monkey around with its marketing price gamble in order to win back the g/c market share in which it has lost to Nvidia.
It is a do or die time for AMD as a whole.
As far as Nvidia. In order for it to stay in the game may be it's time for it to reconsider its market plan as well as it long has ripped consumers off with its outrageous pricing scheme.
