Ok, now the wierd thing is that test#5 of memtest86 gives me about 20+ errors, even if I run my processors at default. I set my timings at default too. Anybody else have this problem?

Doesn't seem to affect stability. I have been doing encoding (TMPGEnc) and playing games for the past 2 days at 2700Mhz.

I have a DFI NF4 Ultra-D and 2x1GB G.SKill PC4000 using Samsung UCCC chips.
Looks like your rams are the culpirts. as was suggested to you, run memtest86 1 stick at the time and find which ram is causing the errors. You could overclock cpu/ram 1:1 ratio w/ one stick and memtest every 5 mhz increase. this way you will find which stick's highest overclocking. if one stick does not meet its spec, then RMA both(as kit). when you overclock and memtest one stick at the time, you will find the memory highest speed on each stick, and choose the lower as guide. It helps w/ dividers not going higher than the highest memory speed.

How can that happen? I also tweaked the "extra" memory settings in my DFI Bios and I got the memtest86 errors to go away.

Ok here is the thing. I am trying to push 310x9=2800Mhz at 1.4v. Even though if I prime both cores at the same time, CPU0 craps out after an hour or so, I can run each core at different times and they are stable (not concurrently). Think it could be a heat issue?

Dangit, I'm so close!

There was an interesting thread over at extreme systems forums about how to burn in one core to get your volts down using CPU Burn. Might want to look into that.

KiaMan, do you mind linking some screenshots? Preferably dual-Prime95. Not that I don't believe you or anything, but I have a same stepping 165 sitting next to my desk and I haven't decided whether to open it or not. I need something more definite to convince myself. I'd much appreciate it.

Thanks.

Let me do prime95 when I get home from work and I will e-mail you SS the next morning. You can post it up or something if you want.

I should have stayed away from this forum. I broke down and got an Opty with this same stepping from the Egg along with some other toys. I'll update later with results. I just got home from work and I'm heating up my present proc with Prime for removal right now.

i should be getting the rest of my stuff today . i see the butterfly went up $40.00 on the 165 since i got mine earlier in the week. look's like the word is getting around.
what's the best order for software / driver installation?
i would imagine:
O/S
mb/drivers
cpu software
antivirus (then plug into the net)
update antivirus
O/S updates

anything i left out?

Alright, I'm running a week 47 Opty 165 from Monarch on a clean install of Windows. Right now, it's running at 300x9 set at 1.375v in BIOS (reported as 1.35v in BIOS and 1.33v on MBM5). I'm going to start Priming this thing as soon as I hit reply.

The newest stepping do seem to be great. I have a 165 CCBWE 0546MPMW, and I'm in the same boat with you guys. I can get to 2.7 stable at 1.425, but one core is bad at 2.9 on 1.5 after 2 hrs, and the other did 12 hrs. last night. I'm going to bump the voltage over 1.5 and try to get to 3.0, just to say that I did it. I'll end up leaving it at 2.7 though. BTW, is CPUZ accurate on voltages? Because it says 1.44 when the BIOS says 1.5. If CPUZ is right, I have enough room to prob go past 3.0, and whoa, would that be sweet. Like having an FX60, I think. You know, someone should write an affinity program that lets you permanently set apps' affinity to a core. That way, I could run games and stuff on the good one and not worry about the bad one.

I'm trying to figure out which setup is better, currently I have my 165 CCBWE 0546 running 289x9 @ 1.45V with HTT 3x and a ram divider of 266 on my A8N-SLI Deluxe bios 1016. Would I be better off running something like 306x8.5 and HTT 3x to get my HTT closer to the 1000 threshhold? My other Q is could I bump up the divider to 333? right now i'm prime stable on both cores for 12hrs.

I haven't tried pushing the frequency any higher than 289 yet as I'm happy at 2.6 and 44% OC but I wan to make sure it's as optimal as it can be.

I can't remember why, but you're not supposed to use 1/2 multipliers for some reason. Also, your HTT's proximity to 1k has no effect on performance; and there's also no advantage to having a higher FSB. As for moving up the RAM divider, that's entirely dependent on what your RAM is capable of.

Alright, I'm tentatively declaring my CPU to be stable at 2700 MHz (1.4v) after 4.5 hours. I need to get this video card overclocked now. I'll Prime the processor again overnight to confirm the OC stability.

Got my 165 from Monarch today. I was disappointed to see that it is 0546MPMW, but after a quick search on the web I found people having good luck with these. Will try it later this evening.

My 0547 TPMW CCBWE from Tankguys arrived today. Cost was $319 shipped which was slightly higher than others but I could specific the stepping from their list of cores. Tankguys have been very accomodating and clear on their supplies. I'll post later when I get the chip running tomorrow.

Will be replacing my 3200+ listed in signature.

And oh, it is a retail chip. I will be using the XP90 heatsink however, I must say that the "retail" heat sink is the best looking one I've ever received from Intel or AMD.

to be honest, I was at first kind of dissapointed that I didn't get the 0546 when I opened the box from monarch, but that was before this thread began and before I popped the opty into my system.

It's early days yet but I'm pretty pleased so far: ScreenShot . This is a better chip than my 170 (see sig.). No prizes for guessing which one I'll be keeping.

So far so good....just popped mine in. Priming 250x9 @ 1.3V...going up 10 FSB at a time. Peak load temps are 32 with an XP-90. Will update this post as I progress.

Priming 260 x 9 @ 1.3V.....

Priming 270 x 9 = 2430 @ 1.3V..... temps ~ 34C

Priming 280 x 9 @ 1.3 ......failed ....bump to 1.35V

Since you already have a good idea of what these CPUs are capable of, I would suggest just starting at 300x9 at stock voltage and then increasing the voltage until you're stable. That's what I did and it saved me a ton of time.
Patience grasshopper. If experience has taught me one thing it is to go slow with the overclock and test frequently. I have borked enough Windown installations by shooting my load too fast before.

Ugh...not doing so hot here... Priming 290 x 9 @ 1.4V... looks liek this might not be the winner i was hoping for.

Blech! this is not what I hoped for at all... I'm stalled out at 295 x 9 = 2655. I have voltage in the BIOS set at 1.5V. CPU-z reads 1.45V. Priming now - temps reading 40C Max. Given those temps I am inclined to believe the CPU-z voltage reading.

Ok that seems to be it. So all in all so far this chip is not much better than my original 0536 WMPW Opty 165. I got to 285 x 9 @ 1.425 with that one. This is about the same. Very very disappointing. May just have to take the IHS off.

It is illegal for individuals to export these... at least according to the literature I received with my CPUs.

[edit]Sorry, originally posted blank[/edit]

I see on the front page of tankguys that they are reporting CCBWE 0546 SPMW at the top of their site. Is that add outdated?

they also list an OEM stepping of CCB1E 0550 VPMW -- any news on this guy?

Guys..All cpus do not overclock this well..a couple report awesome results and we all think this is the norm

I have an opteron 170 0546 xpmw...."most" are hitting 2.7 ghz with ease

well stupid me did not go slow..I went ahead and 270x 10= 1.46 bios, 1.35*1.10%(my 165 did 2610 at this so I figure my 170 should do 2700)...locked up Prime 95 after 2.5hrs....

so I went ahead and tried 1.375*110%=1.52 and bios reposts 1.49...dual prime 95 for 4hrs..did not crash but locked winxp hard

BTW all temps were fine

Then I was not able to even boot 2700 with anything under 1.55v(1.375*113%) bios reports 1.54v...but it was dual prime95 stable for 8.5hrs when I stopped it last night(cpu load 50/52C, PWM is 64C..my 165@2610 temps are 46/48 load, PWM 58)

I should have gone slower...like I did with my 165....find stock vcore max and moving up

I feel pretty certain most 165-170 will hit 2500-2600 pretty high relaibilty..2700 is good bet on the 170...2800, the lucky few or real high volts

I am personally not thrilled with 1.55v on my DFI SLI DR
