I just ordered my 1.6A and a P4S333 from NewEgg two days ago and it hasn't shipped yet. I can't wait to get that baby in. I was an AMD guy, but the possibility of 2.4 GHz and a 512K L2 cache was too tempting. I also want to see about this "legendary" Intel stability (never had any probs with my VIA/AMB 800 untill it died 2 days ago, probably cause I o/c'd it too high and ran it pretty hot). The AVC Sunflower looks like a tempting add-on from what I am seeing, maybe in a couple weeks I'll pick up one of them too. I think I have seen in a few places that people are just using the heatsink from the Sunflower with the Intel retail fan. I could be wrong though. SHIP MY STUFF NEWEGG!!!

<< I haven't had that kind of luck. My most stable has been 2.7 on a 2.2. I hit 2.77 but not stable.

Hey P4266 users, did you change the jumper that upped the voltage to your ram on the motherboard?

I have a sneaky suspicion its my kingston pc2700 ram thats the bottleneck.

yes
ddr 2.6v
max cpu voltage is 1.775

<< The only way the P4s can reach that speed is with DDR, and this makes the P4s perform worst than they did before at the same speeds. >>

Not true. The current world overclocking record of 3808 MHz was done on an ABIT TH7II--an i850 chipset based mainboard. The great thing about overclocking RDRAM is that latency goes down as frequency goes up.

Anyone know whether the MSI 645 will work with standard power supplies like the Asus boards or it needs special P4 power supplies?

the MSI board does not have the 4-pin molex connector on-board....only Asus does right now with their EZ-Plug....you'll need a P4-ready power supply to power the board

I received my 1.6a from googlegear today, it is a malaysia chip, using it right now at 145fsb 2320mhz it wouldnt post at 150 even at 1.7volts , but that may be the motherboard, it is running around 46c at 1.65v , 4114 in 3dmark2001 up from 3500 , very nice scores in sandra, beats all of the comparison systems except the 850chip mem bandwidth test, I have 2175mbps mem bandwidth 850/ddr gets 2450.

I have run 3dmark 2001 many times, and played some heavy Q3, both of those programs are good at crashing unstable overclocks, everything is looking good so far I would have liked to get 150mhz cpu fsb for 2.4ghz and memory at 150 for 300 ddr (I have DDR333 memory) but I am not going to worry about 80mhz on the cpu and 43mhz on the memory.

Is the 1.6a the new DANCING QUEEN I say YES!!

Ouch. My XP1800+ @ 145FSB scores 2131/2013 in Sandra 2002. Look like the P4 using DDR is of no benefit at the same FSB as an Athlon. However, I like the idea of taking a 1.6GHz NW to 2.1+GHz for very little cash.

I am still tossing the idea around of making the move to the darkside.

Hehe, I could drop my fsb a little and pump up the memory ratio, when I had it clocked at 180 (360DDR) I got 2700+mbps

Do it John and help restore order throughout the galaxy.

I plan to but first Nvidia must kindly release some GF4 goodness...preferably 4200 goodness.

I am definitely going to upgrade my video card soon, I have a geforce2 gts and get 4114 in 3dmark2001 with the p3/sdram setup I got around 1800 I dont know if I will get a gfource or a g3ti5 , though I think I will end up getting a g3ti5 after the gefource comes out.

Yup, that's what I have now (GTS 32 MB). It's still more than handles what I throw at it with the exception of 32-bit combined with high resolutions. Then we hit a memory bandwidth brick wall.

I could get a GF3 but with GF4s just about here why not wait?

wow

i just got my P4 1.6a, malay chip.

i got it at 135 fsb. not a huge OC, but over 2 ghz so i'm not complaining.

here's the kicker, this thing FEELS a lot faster than my XP1700+.

don't ask me why, it just does.

<< I'm currently racking my brains as to whether to go with a 2000XP + KT266a or a P4 1.8A/2.0A GHz + 845D rig and these success stories are really luring me toward Intel. But what I'm really after is that legendary stability than Intel's motherboards provide. I'll tell you what, 1 month ago I wouldn't have even considered an Intel rig. My, how things change... >>

Intel rigs are more stable. It isn't "legindary".

It is the subconscious effect of OCing.

By the way, what MB? What frequency? All of this OCing is getting me dizzy.

I got my 1.6A running at 2.4GHz. It needs about 1.65-1.70V. With retail heatsink the temperature is almost 55C with Prime95 looping. Can't really complain about this since I can finally get rid of high pitch fan whining from my TB1.4 rig.

At 2.4GHz (With GF3 225/515) I did a few benchmarkings:

CPUmark99: 150

3D Mark 2001 SE (default): 8449

At 2.48GHz

CPUmark99: 154

3D Mark 2001 SE: 8550

Regarding the MSI, and most other P4 motherboards, you can buy a simple Molex to P4 12v adapter for less than $10 and keep your present ATX power supply. I picked up a couple at CyberGuys and I think they were $7.95.
