Let's see...

Number of "PayPal scam" threads locked: 0
Number of people given vacations for threadcrapping in threads like this one: significantly more than 0

Based on the actions of the mods I think they've determined these to be on-topic posts for the Hot Deals forum.

Thanks for posting the scam - I suppose it can't hurt.

Thread crappers, shut up and don't bother posting if you have nothing constructive to add except for sarcasm and words like "assface."

If anything is ever in question with my paypal account, I just go to www.paypal.com, login, and see what it says. For anybody who would really consider one of these emails to be legit, that is the best thing to do to protect yourself.

According to **** Hot Deals Forum Rules - Please Read Before Posting ****
What about CONSUMER RIGHTS and BAD DEALS?

We all know there are dishonest dealers on the Internet. We also know that, at one time or another, everyone makes honest mistakes. Legitimate Hot Deals are Hot. Dishonest, deceptive and fraudulant offers and practices are NOT.

If a company has acted dishonestly or fraudulantly, threads discussing legal ways to enforce your rights are a valid and important topic for discussion.

I don't see anywhere in the post or title where a company was involved. The same information is given here that paypal, ebay, aol, and other online purchasing companies give you when you sign up. If you don't take the time to read the BIG BOLD RED WARNINGS that these companies provide when you sign up for them, it's your fault for not doing so.

If you've never seen a scam locked Here is one.

I'm not saying that these warnings don't need to be issued, but HOT DEALS is NOT the place for it IMHO. It is not a hot deal, it has nothing to do with merchandise, it has nothing to do with a company comitting fraud.

I have never seen a moderator comment in one of these threads. I would be interested in their opinion either in post or PM (Please?) . It just doesn't make sense to leave these posts up 4-5 times a week.

I think I agree with the majority that these posts aren't applicable to the Hot Deals forum. They are much more applicable to the FS/FT forums where Paypal plays an important role. Paypal really has nothing to do with the Hot Deals forum.

(and this being applicable to FS/FT is still kinda iffy, OT would be the best place to put it)

Okay,

Really guys, what is going on here? You are getting into a heated debate about the content of a message on an internet message board. There are much bigger and more important things in life that you could do with your time. Chill.

That one was locked for stupidity, not the scam warning content. Posting a thread like that is sort of like posting something along the lines of...
OMG u guyz need 2 watch out. I got a email that sed "i_love_you" & nuthing esle with a message.scr attached. i cliked the message.scr but i all it sayed wuz "HA HA YOU ARE TEH ST00PID" and then my comuter crashed!!1!!1 WTF!!?!?!1 If u get a email lik that dont' clik on the message.scr!!!11!
Anyway, nowhere in the rules you quoted did it mention anything banning PayPal scam warnings. Nothing promoting them, true, but nothing excluding them either.

Thanks for posting this here where people can be reminded that using PayPal is not without risk as they require bank account information. Forum members who post information which can help others not only grab a good deal, but also be reminded of some of the caveats are doing many a real favor and should not have to live in fear of violating forum rules for not hiding the information elsewhere on the website.

It helps put deals in the proper perspective, which is that some of the "good deals" are not without risk. If a deal is posted and people have had problems either collecting a rebate from them or have been gouged by a vendor in one way or another than forum moderators should have the good sense not to force those who know this to post it somewhere else thereby possibly helping that vendor grab another victim. (Some of the moderators realize this and some do not).

In terms of the member who posted this particular thread, if you have saved only one person from possibly having their personal information stolen and/or possibly having their lives ruined by some of the trash which roams the internet looking for victims, then you will have done a very good deed for a fellow human being.

Thanks again, John
