And Fuzzy, I'm not bashing...it does belong in OT. Note the title...ANOTHER PP Scam. Seems like we get 1/week posted here.

If people here get the memo and actually follow through on it, they need to ask themselves why they would click the link and NOT call PP Customer Service instead?

If we're going to allow this, then we should start posting every "false" email that people get saying that they need to get the latest Microsoft patch.

Common sense and reasoning should be able to guide people here. It is not thermonuclear physics here. If you believe you received an email from a company you are doing business with, call them. If you did not initiate a transaction, do not give out your personal information, including CC #'s.

I agree 100% with you that it does belong in OT, not HD. However, I don't see why so many people need to be a-holes when someone innocently posts something like this here with good intentions. It just seems to me people lurk these particular forums to be dicks to others and the other poster is 100% correct, act like ignorant self-righteous jerks.

That's just my opinion at least, I prefer to stick to the chubb wallet community, which seems to be much more civil.

Hi All,

Quick note....

An easy way to spot this as a fake?

"Dear Valued Customer"

We do not have a greeting like this in our emails. Our emails would include FIRST and LAST name.

To be honest..it makes me want to vomit or get a rolled up newspaper and slap a few of you across the nose until you get the message. DON'T LIKE IT...FINE! But save your post pumping thread crapping BS for elsewhere. Enough is enough. Mods my apologies but this kind of attitude is giving this forum a VERY bad rep in many, many other forums.
I completely agree... This forum has gotten very different from when I first found out about the "AT effect" & the great AT community... Nowadays, there's too many negative "mod-wannabes"... I'd rather go back to the days when the closest thing to a thread crap was just saying "in before the lock "

Wow, reading through this post is like shaking a jar of ants! I can't help but wonder how many of you angry people are pitching from work? I am... If that is case, relax. Go take a break and don't click on crap that makes you mad. Work is for fun, not anger... do I sound bitter? I'm in before the lock regardless

Something is wrong here. If you don't like the topic, MOVE ON. Life is too short for all the negatives being expressed here. I agree with a couple of the other posters, FW is a friendlier community than this seems to be becoming.

Not really, FW is bad as here. it's just that the soccer moms are over there which makes it look like a friendlier community. I was there when they just started up, ain't much different from here. Try asking the former mods from FW.

People are just tired of seeing posts like this in the Hot Deals section. It's called Hot Deals for a reason. This is not one. Why not get the mods to start a forum called Scams instead and post it there? Now, that last sentence is more on the d!ck-like attitude that was alluded to.

I deal with security issues every day. There is a new email scam every day, whether it is out for $$ like this one or someone out phising or something else just as bogus. While people may post it here, it is not a hot deal. That is my point. It belongs in OT.

This is the first, and probably last, time that I have posted to one of these...at least the first time in my recollection.

Maybe we can get the mods to clarify what a Hot Deal is and put that in the forum rules. That would clear up all this crap. IMO, a hot deal is a product or service that is found at a discount.

The funniest thing is Paypal will ALWAYS begin a personal email with Dear Mr. Soandso... they have your name and they ALWAYS use it in a email relating to your account. Thats the easiest way to tell its a scam.

I guess some just feel like keeping track of every paypal scam rather than learning a couple basics to be able to avoid them all.

You mean something like (directly from the forum rules):

What is a Hot Deal? Here are a few examples:
A discount coupon on a vendor's site.

Info about a good "price match + rebate" situation.

Links to store ads and reposts of store ads, especially if they contain a really great deal. You might include a "heads up" about the specific deal in the thread title and/or your post.

Any nice premium deals, as long as those taking advantage are in the intended group. If a company wants to survey Senior Network Administrators, or if they offer a discount to retail sales employees, and you are in the tenth grade, you probably do not qualify. It is a good idea to point out such limitations in your post.

Thing is, though, the mods here don't seem to mind these posts at all. If they can live with it, why can't every one else? I mean, if they finally decide one day that these aren't allowed, then, by all mean, go ahead with the critiques of the OP; until they do, tho, just let it be.

Actually, they get deleted 90% of the time. Hopefully, this one will also be deleted.

I'm just waiting for one of these scam emails to take advantage of the Internet Explorer security hole that lets websites "hide" true URL's.

Meanwhile, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CLICK ON EVERY SINGLE THREAD in Hot Deals. Don't like it? Then don't bother!

I think one of the reasons AT HD is losing hot deals is because many posters here are jerks, and feel a need to thread crap. When I first started looking at HD, I could barely keep up with the number of threads. Nowadays, there aren't a lot of new posts. IMO, FW has a much friendlier community and consequently, a lot more hot deals (even tech-related ones).

LOL, this is so HOT we should all order 3.

That 1/2 of the first page on default settings is stickies of paid advertising and notices could also be a problem. And with threads like this, that leaves even less space for real deals to show up on the first page. Not everyone has changed their defaults. With garbage like this and old bumps, it's possible that less than 5 fresh deals show up on the first page, which is horrible. This forum looks pretty dead even when it gets an average number of deals posted.

Just because I don't have to click on it, doesn't mean it still belongs here. Just because a police officer doesn't see you speeding on the highway doesn't make it legal.

The reason that AT HD is losing hot deals is because is because everyone would a) much rather get info from fatwallet a couple of days earlier, before the deal is dead, or b) because there are very few hot deals left worth posting about, which is a problem of the retailers, not the forum. We are far from jerks for trying to keep the good deals alive while crap posts like this keep popping up. Aside from that, it's not thread crapping if the thread is a lame one... especially one that happens every other day.

Ya know, since a moderator has never, ever, closed one of these threads - then by the rules of the forum it must be OK. And it's not like they are asleep at the wheel, plenty of other threads get locked. These don't.

Since it must be OK to post these occasionally (see above), it therefore seems that everyone who stopped by to bitch about it, instead of moving on, should be the ones taking it to "brag and moan".

I have a Spam account for free items and to download crap. It amazes me on how many people think that there are no BAD people in this world.

Well your an asshat and just a jerk. Its not a hot deal but informative

Ask yourself WHY people are posting deals at FW first, rather than here. Could it possibly be because noobs are crapped on unmercifully here? God help the reposters and would-be do-gooders like PicPop.

We are far from jerks for trying to keep the good deals alive while crap posts like this keep popping up. Aside from that, it's not thread crapping if the thread is a lame one... especially one that happens every other day.
Yet, you (and I'm only singling you out because of the above quote - nothing personal) have not only chosen to read the initial post, but also enough of the thread to quote me, AND have taken the time to post and bump this thread back to the top.

Shall we continue to debate this and keep bumping the thread?

I repeat, if it doesn't interest you, don't click on it, and don't bump it. It's not like the thread has a deceiving title like "SUPER HOT DEAL IPOD's for $50!!!" As pointed out already, if the mods haven't locked it yet, they must think it's okay.

I, myself, like to see these fraud threads once in awhile just to make sure a new one doesn't fool me, and I can let other people (who don't live on these forums) know what to watch out for.
