Memory prices continue to fall, how far and for how much longer is up to speculation. I mentioned the Kingston HyperX PC-3000 memory that I ordered friday morning for $89.50 in a couple other threads here. But now ExcaliberPC dropped the price even further as a Special Presidents' Day Weekend Promotion Offer, this is quality RAM at a great price so figured this deserves it's own thread.

This memory should easily hit 200/400 MHZ since it's rated for 370MHZ with tight timings. Haven't found any reviews of the PC-3000 HyperX, but the PC-3500 sticks were very highly rated at Extreme overclocking.com review

These specs are the same for either size of the 370MHz (PC3000) DDR modules:
370MHz settings: 2-3-3-1T (CAS Latency 2)
Aluminum heat spreader for thermal diffusion
Lifetime Warranty

256M HyperX $51.00
512M HyperX $86.00

To make this deal even sweeter, if you add an item from their Abit Gear or Special Promotion section you get a $5.00 cash back discount. I added a ABIT Northbridge Chipset Fan link for free after the credit.

(Edit: Title & Prices, were $49.50/$89.50)

Nice deal. A gig of memory for under $200 is pretty good. Kingston makes good stuff too.

well.. i use to use Kingston valueram on 166fsb, on optimal settings ran prime95 all night long and no error, got these new hyperX, put it in on same setting, prime fails in 2 minutes... Im wondering if its the ram itself or not... maybe I'll do a format later and see it fixes it.. I dont' have the valueram anymore.. so can't put it back and test it... the hyperx runs fine on my stock speed. without any error.

A7N8X Deluxe
2100+ TBred B @ 1.75v
13.5x166@2245

HyperX PC3000@ 2.7v fails prime in 2 mins..

ValueRam PC2100@ 2.7v prime all night long....

I'm pretty sure its gotta be bad ram... but i'm going to return them anyways.. so not gonna do an exchange.. (got myself pc2700 at staples in pc2100 packaging, and that'll do fine )

try running Memtest86 before knocking the RAM That will tell you if the ram is the case, 10 loops of it. Report back to us in the morning.

at this point i don't think running memtest will do anything, since im sure its probably the ram thats costing the troubles.. could be just my single ram. anyhow, I believe i did get it running at 200fsb with optimal setting.

Talon: I ordered this memory (512MB Hyperx) and will compare it to the Geil 2700 Ultra I ordered from googlegear. I will just return whichever one I don't like (I can always return the memory through my Amex Gold card with no return fee).

I'll let you know which one overclocks better, although I am betting that the Hyperx will win.

Northland: I'm looking forward to your comparison tests between the HyperX and Geil

EXman: Really sorry to hear of all your trouble getting your order to go through. I've never dealt with ExcaliberPC before, but did do a little research before ordering and starting this thread. This is not a fly-by-night company, even though it appears that they only recently setup their e-tail site.
eXcaliberPC.com has a 6-month, 10.0 reseller rating at Reseller Ratings As with any new business venture I'm not surprised to hear that they have a few bugs to work out in their online ordering system.

Taken from about ExcaliberPC
eXcaliberPC.com is a newly set up eCommerce operation of Caliber Computer Corporation
Caliber Computer Corporation, headquartered in Fremont, California, is a leading computer systems company and a premier supplier of technology for business customers, government agencies, educational institutions and consumers. The company was founded in 1985. Today, Caliber has five offices worldwide and revenue for the last four quarters totaled $ 250 million...
eXcaliberPC.com has been awarded as the exclusively authorized parts & accessories fulfillment center for ABIT-USA Service & Support.
Considering their relationship with ABIT-USA, and the parent company certifications from Intel, Mircro$oft, etc, I expect they will resolve all the issues with your orders promptly tomorrow morning.

Talon,

excaliburpc.com has already gotten back to me but I'm not sure I am happy with their response (other than it was fast). I'll keep this thread updated as to my treatment from them. But I still hope this ram will rock!

for those who order this chip... word of advice, keep the voltage low... I set it at 2.8 and both were burnt, I would think... they wouldn't work at high speed anymore, still works just won't work at high speed... after I took them out and they smelled like burnt chips! wondering why it still works though..... I wouldn't suggest going over 2.7 (but maybe 2.7 will kill it too?) just a word of caution, note that this happened to both of the sticks. both still works, but both fails prime95 in matter of minutes where my pc2100 and 2700 will do fine. and I did take them apart 1 stick tested at a time..
