Actually good to hear it's performing as advertised. I for one am getting sick of ordering ram that won't run at advertised speeds. I've spent a fortune lately on return shipping for memory that won't run at stated specs. :| Self
heh same.....sucks for me though because that means I need a new motherboard....8rda here i come
man..you've been testing that memory too long, it's got you all screwed up. Getting a new mobo is good thing...

actually I'm not too sure if I should get a new motherboard, anyone know if theres going to be some great new technology thats worth waiting for anytime soon?

Hammer doesn't come out until September, at least being able to get ahold of one or a cheap one at least.

A warning for those buying Kingston HyperX RAM for their Asus A7N8X (and all other Nforce2 motherboards):

I was poking around on a variety of Nforce-related forums to see what the latest and greatest was on our favorite motherboards when I discovered something worrisome: A user posted a comment stating that Kingston was no longer supporting any of their RAM products on the Asus A7N8X. Needless to say, this bothered me since I just received my HyperX just last week!

I called Kingston's tech support and asked the guy who answered about this. I was informed that not only was this true (that the A7N8X was not supported for HyperX, let alone any other Kingston products) but that this new "limitation" applies to ALL nForce2-based motherboards. Again, this is merely what I was told. If you want to hear this for yourself (and possibly get further details on the restricted/removed technical support), feel free to call Kingston Technology at 800-435-0640 (from within the U.S.) or visit their "Contact Us" page at http://www.kingston.com/company/contact.asp

Good luck to everyone who decides to hang on with their Kingston RAM! I won't let this stop me from purchasing Kingston products in the future, but it is a great disappointment for me to have heard this from them.

Therefore, my HyperX is going to be traded in for either Corsair or OCZ.

UPDATE: I found the original comment that led me to call Kingston's Tech Support. You can find it through this link, the 8th post down. The poster's screenname is "AlbertsBSA413".

This is VERY interesting, and VERY strange, if true. I can think of only about three reasons for this, and none of them are good:

1) Most people buying this RAM, to put in an nForce 2 board, are planning on overclocking their systems, and running this ram at higher-than-spec FSB or voltage. Kingston doesn't want to take the financial hit from warrantee issues arising from this. (Probability: unlikely - if the product was any good, it being "hot" would make them a lot of money, and removing support for this config would only dampen sales.)

2) There is some sort of power issue, running two of these DIMMs together, on an A7N8X, and will result in burnt DIMMs and/or instability. (Probability: again, unlikely. If it were a power/voltage issue, then the problem would most likely be limited to specific motherboards, not all of them with the nForce 2 chipset.)

3) There is actually some sort of serious technical compatibility issue, either with the RAM, or worse, the nForce 2 chipset's dual-DDR memory-controller itself. This is much more worrysome. (Probability: possible, perhaps even likely. Kingston maintains a fairly extensive compatibility database, and has a decent support/warrantee policy. If there is a real issue here, then they would take notice of it.)

This should *definately* be investigated more. It might prove to make current nForce 2 mobos a poor choice, if there is a problem with the integrated dual-DDR DRAM memory controller in the chipset. Has anyone else posted about this issue on other hardware sites? Are they looking into it?

This would be interesting if true. I checked Crucial's memory configurator. For my Epox 8K7A+, they list the 512MB PC2700 as compatible. But they do not show that stick as an option for the Abit NF7-S (an NForce2 mobo). This is bad news for me since I just ordered two sticks of Crucial PC2700 planning on using them when I eventually upgrade my mobo.

Excaliber had a sale over the weekend again. I got two of the 256MB HyperX pc3500 for $70. each. It arrived the next day via their cheapest shipping (I am near them). It works at Cas 2-2-2-6 at 200MHz fsb, which is the limit of my mb. I am very happy with it.

I sent an email to Kingston about the questions of Nforce2 support. I will post the response when I get one.

Kingston doesn't support the A7N8X. I did a lot of research though and everyone I found who is using the HyperX is having great results.

All,

Please understand that I did not post that to dampen anyone's hopes of getting high quality RAM on the "cheap."

I've honestly run into several strange problems with my A7N8X and not one of them have to do with FSB overclocking or CPU multiplier changes. (Hard to believe, eh?) However, the details of those problems belong in a hardware forum. I just wanted to pass along what I had learned. Suffice it to say that Kingston talked me out of using their RAM. Asus' response (when I spoke with their tech support) was to recommend only Corsair, per the Corsair "Compatability Lab" webpage. (Go here and click on "Compatability Lab" for more information.)

With that said, I actually went after OCZ's EL DDR RAM from eXcaliberpc since I've been reading more and more "good" results from it, along with improved/speedy responses to tech support requests. I sincerely wish luck to those who've bought the Kingston RAM and hope that it works well for you!! (There are plenty of folks who've claimed very positive results from this RAM, after all!)

To those who're contacting Kingston, please do post whatever response(s) you might get. I found it to be strange that this happened, as well.

m1ke101: My comments were not meant to give anyone the impression that the Kingston HyperX RAM would not work on the nForce2-based motherboards. Quite to the contrary, they DO work. Heck, the PC3000 works at 166MHz on my machine just fine. I couldn't get the RAM to work at all at 178MHz on my A7N8X Deluxe after I upgraded to the 1002.A BIOS release. Heck, I even reflashed to the original 1002 BIOS (which 178 originally worked at) but that was now "broken" as well. Thus, I called Kingston as much to see what (if any) known issues existed for their RAM and the A7N8X Deluxe as to confirm/disprove the comments that I had read on that other board that I mentioned in my original post.

That's why I'm glad to read that people are able to get the HyperX working. It's great RAM, I am sure! It's also a shame that Kingston's technical support representative would be willing to make such a sweeping statement regarding his company's new policy of having no support for their products on nForce2-based motherboards (especially the Asus A7N8X Deluxe).

<RANT>With that said, I should point out that, IMO, I just have a pain-in-the-butt motherboard that is finicky to the extreme. Asus' RMA policy doesn't include a cross-ship option, therefore I cannot afford to send my motherboard back in for testing/repairs (which is total BULLCRAP, in my opinion). Needless to say, I will NEVER buy another Asus motherboard again. I paid good money for the board and would be willing to allow my credit card to be earmarked for another one just long enough to either get mine repaired or have it proven "unrepairable".</RANT>

Here is the email response I got from Kingston support:

Dear Greg,

The issue only pertains to the KHX3500 parts with Asus's A7N8X board.
You're fine with using the HyperX in your system.

Here is my email to Kingston support:

Hi,

I recently purchased this memory for my Epox 8RDA+ (Nforce2) system.
Couldn't be happier with it.

Then, I read the message (see below) on Anandtech that purports to tell me
that this memory is not supported by Kingston on the Nforce2 motherboards.

Can you tell me what the real deal is? Also, I intend to purchase a second
KHX3000/512 to run dual channel. Is there a problem with this?

Thanks,

Greg

==================================================================
Not sure what to think of all this, but my 8RDA+, KHX3000/512 and XP2100 Tbred B is running rock stable at 13x166, which is identified by the BIOS as XP2700. Just haven't had any time to push it further . . .

FWIW, I am going to order another stick of HyperX the next time I see a nice price drop so that I can run dual channel memory.

That's great news for you! After what I've encountered with dealing with Asus' technical support, I cannot say that I'm surprised. Asus does not admit that it has any problems whatsoever with the A7N8X Deluxe.

At any rate, I'm actually thinking very carefully about the idea of replacing my A7N8X Deluxe with the Epox 8RDA+ or the Abit NF7-S v1.2 since they both seem to be very well designed. The reviews that I've found of them all give them fair amounts of praise and the "general 'overclocking user' populace" seems to be satisfied with them. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I just received the OCZ EL Dual Channel PC3500 RAM that I ordered from eXcaliber and stuck that in the A7N8X last night. The "POST Reporter" has an annoying tendency to report that something is wrong with the RAM when I KNOW that there isn't a thing wrong with it. Hmf.

Edit: Also, I want to apologize if I created a lot of consternation with what I had been told. It's possible that the Kingston rep that I was speaking with misunderstood what I was asking or I may well have misunderstood what he was telling me. Either way, I just wanted to get the word out that there are issues.
