Another Racist Restaurant Receipt Issue

ASHBURN, Va. — A racist note left on a receipt for a black Virginia waitress has sparked outrage in Virginia this week.

The message, scrawled at the bottom of the bill at Anita’s New Mexico Style Cafe in Ashburn, read “great service don’t tip black people.”

Restaurant server Kelly Carter said it was left Saturday, with no gratuity, by a white man and woman to whom she had served breakfast. There was no indication the couple was unhappy with her for any reason, Carter said. In fact, she recalled that the couple complimented the pot pie.

If the couple came into the restaurant again, Carter said, she would still wait on them.

“Just me serving them would let them know they did not get the best of me,” she told ABC News.

Restaurant owner Tommy Tellez Sr. called the note “disheartening,” saying Carter is a loyal employee and beloved by her customers.

Since then, restaurant manager said customers are now requesting Carter as their server and some are even stopping by to give her hugs and money.

I will remain open to it being legit and hope this isn't a hoax like the anti-gay one a few years back.

If it's legit, that really sucks. Shows that racism today isn't just confined to crazy people living out in the middle of no where. Here we have seemingly well mannered individuals who for some reason believe a certain race is not equal to their own. And it's not some place way down south, Ashburn is a pretty populated area right next to a major international airport.

Yep I see the same thing. And in the article the waitress said she served them breakfast. So that makes sense.

Similar thing happened near me a few years back. Black waitress at a Red Lobster claimed she got a receipt with a racist note. Donations poured in. Guys whose name got posted all over the place sued Red lobster. Turns out it was a hoax. As far as I know the waitress kept the money.

Racists are stupid people but even they don't want to bring attention to themselves like having their name plastered all over the internet knowing people will harass them.

I've known the type of people who would write that to skip out on a tip.
I've known the type of people who would make stuff like this up to make a buck.

Being biracial with a foot on each side the fence who has been confused as Mediterranean, Hispanic...even had some jerk call me a little Vietnamese kid back in old timey days.

More importantly: A great many of these racist receipts have been proven hoaxes, so I no longer automatically assume people are being honest.

More importantly: A great many of these racist receipts have been proven hoaxes, so I no longer automatically assume people are being honest.

I worked at a relatives restaurant and motel in Virginia Beach like 25 years ago, for a whole summer. The amount of racism I saw was prolific. N***er this N***er that, tons of other derogatory talk. It was very ironic since the bastion of my relatives restaurant crew was black, yet he despised them for being black on the regular.

I don't doubt that some asshole would write that on a receipt, but doesn't it seem more like something that the _waitress_ would write? Why both "great service" and "don't tip"? Seems more like "I gave these dicks great service, but I guess they don't tip black people."
