Website all SOLD OUT. I knew I shoulda ran down to the B&M on my lunch break. Guess I'll be up early tomorrow.

One of my questions still stands from earlier. Any word on the TV-Out functionality/stability with Xwindows in FreeBSD (or any *nix flavor)?

Some of you are still confusing the PCI 32MB 7200 Radeon (on sale for $49.99) with the one glenn1 posted - the 32mb PCI SDRAM Radeon (also on sale for $49.99, but ringing up as $29.99).
I think you may be confusing the 7200 with the 7000. The 7000 or VE is what was on sale for $49.99. I have no idea what it was ringing up for though.

The PCI SDRAM Radeon 32 mb card is supposed to be marked at $29.99. I think there are just a few stores that are lagging with the markdown. The store that I visited had it clearly marked at $29.99 and it rang up that way.

hmmm... My card is the PCI version and it indeed comes with 32MB of SDRAM. Also, windows is detecting it as a 7200. THis card has svideo output as well and a HSF on the card.

Help! Man I'm so confused

I don't keep up with video card news at all because I'm not much of a gamer so I know little about video cards. Since my Voodoo 3 3000 AGP is getting old, I was jumping when I saw this deal.

I immediately went out and bought the Radeon 7000 32MB DDR AGP card for $50 (hoping the $20 rebate would come). What I didn't know was that the Radeon 32MB SDR PCI was a different card - I assumed both were Radeon 7000 but the difference is one was PCI with 32MB SDR and the other was 32MB DDR AGP. And after I read this thread, I realized they're two totally different card.

I haven't opened the original packaging yet so I can still return it. So should I? Of the two cards ($30 Radeon 32MB SDR PCI or $50-$20 rebate Radeon 7000 32MB DDR AGP), which should I get if I want the most powerful/stable cards that will work well on WinXP? Since I'm a graphics card newbie, I'm trusting your opinions on this. Please help.

What kind of TV-Out cables come with the card? Is it a single s-video out cable? Is there an s-video out to composite convertor cable? Also, this question is important, how many pins does the s-video output connector on the card have? Is it a 7 or 4 pin connector?

I only ask because I could possibly use the same cable for another video card.

Thanks all!

Is the Radeon PCI 32M SDR for $30 bucks that HOT of a deal, a quick search on pricewatch shows that most stores are selling it for around the same price, granted you have to pay shipping, just wanted to know if this was a "HOT deal" I should jump on or wait ...

Yes! It is! Resellers on Pricewatch would tack on $10-15 shipping and possibly tax too. Of course you pay tax at the retail store, but that is pretty insignificant. Also, those cards online are probably OEM or Bulk, so no cables. If you needed to buy the cables seperately, it would be at least $10, plus tax and shipping. Finally, an OEM card wouldn't have the same warranty a retail card does.

You see, it all adds up. Its a hot deal!

EDIT: Plus, you get it immediately!

It really depends on your needs. I want to use a second monitor to use with my AGP 64MB DDR Radeon. Then I will pull out my DDR Radeon and selly my system with a cheap (but decent vid card).

It is NOT an awesome card - it will not run the very latest games at hi rez. But it is sufficient to be a "fair" gaming card -ESPECIALLY for $30 (total . . . well, plus tax - no shipping or wait).

If you want the "Best" video card for gaming, pick the DDR - it has the best performance of the two.

All the ones you saw on pricewatch are either 7000, AGP, or has no TV-out.

Comes with s-video cable, composite cable, and adapter. The s-video cable has 4 pins.

Yeah, the OEM's lack TVO. There is no shortage of 'em and prices will probably drop to this this level within a few months without any sales but this is a good deal right now on amongst the best PCI cards available with solid drivers which continue to be developed for the entire Radeon line.

As far as 7000 AGP DDR versus "7200" PCI SDR, that is a tough call. PCI benchmarks are rare. I would check madonion to compare the two cards with your CPU. I guess they are pretty close performance wise. If you are neither limited to PCI nor require dual monitor support then there is probably not a real deal for you here because you are better with either a "7200" AGP DDR (sans TVO) or a "7200" AGP DDR LE TVO for relatively dated CPU's.

Well I checked out madonion for meself and was surprised their database was kinda crappy. The only relevant listings were for SDR and VE with no differentiation betwixt models of the latter (AGP, PCI, 32MB, 64MB). Even the best VE scores still trail those of the SDR (PCI) by a wide margin however a great part of that would be due to the lack of T&L on the 7000/VE which 3DMark2001 makes use of but your games may not -after all, modern games with T&L may not be playable on an older system anyway.

I actually axed a similar question in the video forum recently aboot the 7000 DDR PCI versus "7200" SDR PCI for use with my mum's aforementioned P233. However, at the time I did not realize that TVO was available with the North American SDR PCI as it is not with the DDR AGP except in the rare LE model. So that is why I was wondering how much of a performance hit the 7000/VE would take since it definitely did have TVO and then some (dual monitor).

So anyway, I was glad to find this thread not only for the Hot Deal on a great PCI card but also to learn that it had TVO and so is really ideal for mum's olde school PC. I mentioned before the lack of hardware Direct3D with the Verite (circa 1997) and XP using the very beta 2000 driver (1998) which was really not a problem. However, without a proper driver the monitor was not recognized and cannot use power saving features so a blank screen saver is being used instead. I am also kinda hoping that the Radeon might make a few more MAME games playable (DirectDraw) for when a certain somebody comes visiting.

Yes...this cards best feature is the TV-out functionality which I hear is quite decent compared to most nvidia tv-out..except for maybe the case of the previous post concerning the better tv-out quality with a certain software with one of the other nvidia cards. The tv-out of the ati cards have always been rated better than average from what ive read. I can't wait to hook this card up to my p-180 and start watching divx and play emu roms on my television set.

To clear some things up:
The radeon 7000/ve usually uses a 64bit ddr bus or 128 sdr bus. The radeon 7200/radeon sdr pci both use a 128 bit ddr/sdr bus. Think of the radeon 7200 as a geforce 2 gts and the radeon 7000 as a geforce 2 mx, half the mem bandwidth, and lesser core features. In this case, since the radeon 7200 is using sdram, the mem bandwidth is roughly the same with that of a radeon 7000 ddr/sdr. But because of the radeon 7200's better core features, its noticably faster in 3d applications. bUt the radeon 7000 had hydravision(dual monitor) so you can output to vga and tv out at the same time.
