Another reason I don't drink soda

Do you want to be healthy? Drinking soda is bad for your health in so many ways; science can't even state all the consequences. Here's what happens in your body when you assault it with a Coke:

Within the first 10 minutes, 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. This is 100 percent of your recommended daily intake, and the only reason you don't vomit as a result of the overwhelming sweetness is because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor.

Within 20 minutes, your blood sugar spikes, and your liver responds to the resulting insulin burst by turning massive amounts of sugar into fat.

Within 40 minutes, caffeine absorption is complete; your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, and your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream.

Around 45 minutes, your body increases dopamine production, which stimulates the pleasure centers of your brain, a physically identical response to that of heroin, by the way.

After 60 minutes, you'll start to have a sugar crash.

How many sodas have you had today? How about your kids? As of 2005, white bread was dethroned as the number one source of calories in the American diet, being replaced by soft drinks.

The average American drinks more than 60 gallons of soft drinks each year, but before you grab that next can of soda, consider this: one can of soda has about 10 teaspoons of sugar, 150 calories, 30 to 55 mg of caffeine, and is loaded with artificial food colors and sulphites. Not to mention the fact that it?s also your largest source of dangerous high-fructose modified corn syrup.

I drink two a day. Too damn good to give up, I'd rather die earlier (ask me again in 5 years) with it than live longer living off water...

I've cut down to zero soda now. It used to be diet for a few years, now not even that. Water, mango juice, milk, and whatever is what I drink. Organic, of course because the high fructose syrup and other sugars in juices are pretty much on par with soda.

People are so stupid about what they give their kids. Some parents might as well just let their kids smoke cigarettes, can't be much worse than letting them drink soda and eat bleached flour and corn syrup all day.

Damn, you say those things like you think they're BAD or something!
If Coca-Cola does all the things you say, maybe I need to start drinking it again!

You'd be surprised how your body reacts when you eat a lot of things.

You'd also be surprised how resilient it is. Soda doesn't worry me in moderation. If you're drinking several per day, you're well on your way to diabetes, but let's not pretend Soda is any worse than, say, a steak.

More to the point, the problems pointed out in the article are all due to OVERCONSUMPTION, not just because soft drinks are the Devil's beverage. There's nothing wrong with a soft drink every now and again, you just have to realize what it is - a dessert dish. Getting 100% of your RDA of sugar is not inherently bad. Neither is a a blood sugar increase. The problem comes from this occurring 5 times in a 24 hour period.

The heroin scare tactic is especially cute. You know your body releases dopamine after you eat anything and everything, as a pleasure response is a natural physiological response to the fed state? Enjoying eating stuff keeps you from starving to death in the wild.

God I hate people with a cause. Stop campaigning. I can make my own life decisions, thanks.

If there's anything that truly worries me about any and all soft drinks, it's the carbonic acid and tooth decay. I hate having dentistry done.

I only drink the non-caffeinated soft drinks, mainly the orange kind. Crush, minute maid, sunkist etc.

I guess they are just as bad though, but I dont like being addicted to caffeine.

I quit drinking sodas. I lapsed for the holidays, but have started quitting again. Quitting smoking was far easier... They don't have cigarette machines everywhere in the US.

Exactly. I would rather die young drinking soda and eating lots of red meat then living a long time and living off of water and rabbit food.

2-3 cans of Dr. Pepper a day here.

Well, since your profile shows you in Ohio...I guess you wouldn't really know about civilized states now would ya? After all, isn't Ohio one of those "fly-over states?
