Risking a hell of a fine and lawsuit if you do not...

And nothing illegal about giving that server only 4 hours the following weeks.

IMHO tip threads should be illegal. I know for a fact those that brag here about stiffing every time or only leaving a max of $X are fucking liars because they have no backbones.

First, if someone just wanted minimum wage they'd get a minimum wage job and profit from less stress than what a waiter has to go through.

Second, service is based on food cost because usually a hamburger served for $1 (McDonalds/et al) has a different level of service than the hamburger served for $20 (high-end steak houses and the like and also much better tasting than that $1 hamburger).

Third, the above said, if you think that $50/plate place is no better than fast food....JUST FUCKING GO EAT AT MCDONALDS.

Seems more like another reason to not have children you can't afford to raise.

I wonder why Dad isn't chipping in? In a story like this, when Dad isn't mentioned at all, it is usually because whatever the father situation is, he is not mentioned because it would make the single mom look less sympathetic.

Just another case where people seem to want the public at large to finance the bad choices of a small group.

This is ATOT... we bitch and moan about tipping here more than they do in the back at Chili's. I'm surprised you posted this as news, like we haven't discussed it a billion times beforehand already.

I think a lot of the people here mostly eat at McDonalds because they are low paid scum who lack social skills and a work ethic.

They are afraid somehow tipping might become an accepted standard at McDonalds and they will look cheap when they are on a date with their 250 pound girlfriends.

All minimum wage does is set the lower limit on value to the employer for hiring. With no minimum wage anyone can find a job with pay that matches their value as an employee, even people with no skills, and poor work ethics. As the government ratchets up minimum wage people are excluded from the work force.

Talk to some high school graduates about how hard it is to find a first job. The average age in fast food is now 29 years old, and it should be 19, a first job, not a career asking if you want fries.

How old are you?

Why should I have to tip when a meal is already $12-15 per person before tax + tip + drinks?

Want a tip? Don't eat yellow snow.

Servers are incentivized to provide better service when they make $2.13/hr, and I am more likely to tip them better since I know they make that little base salary.

If everybody gets bumped up to minimum wage, tipping is not going to disappear - servers are going to feel entitled tips in addition to their higher wages.

I will likely tip less to keep the total bill prices about the same if this goes though as I reckon menu prices are going to go up to account for the wage increase, though the product & service I get will stay the same.

What price per meal to you pay? Many servers are bumped up to wages beyond minimum if they are good.

Yup, that's the incentive...provide good service and get more money. We usually go to $20 or $30+/plate when we sit down to eat somewhere, usually only a couple times per month.

Fuck those states and the precedent they set, tipping culture has crept into other states & countries that already pay fair wages!

thanks for sharing.

You are welcome.

I hate when McDonald's clients are assumed to be lazy scum. I used to work at McDonalds in college and many of its clientele are the kinds of people that are actually out building things, fixing things, keeping gas in the tanks and food on the shelves.

I personally wouldn't eat at McD's anymore, I think it tastes bad overall, but I respect the people that do enough to say they are not scum.
