Steve Schmidt:

"I think that all of this stuff that has transpired over the last two years is in search of a solution to a problem, voting fraud, that doesn’t really exist when you look deeply at the question,” Schmidt said. “It’s part of the mythology now in the Republican Party that there’s widespread voter fraud across the country. In fact, there’s not.”

So they're popping up voter id laws, cutting voting times, for a problem that DOESN'T EXIST.

Shocking I must say...how many GOP'ers have said that now? And people here still try to defend it, LOL

They're gullible, believing what they want to believe, and their leadership manipulates them quite mercilessly.

Voter ID laws and other voter-suppression tactics are just more dirty politics by the party of lying hypocrites.

Anything that makes the lefties spend money and throw tantrums is worth doing. Fuck em if they can't take a joke.

ok so fraud isn't as widespread as some people make it seem like.... ok?

nothing wrong with having your ID. Instead of arguing AGAINST requiring ID, how about arguing for giving assistance to the poor and elderly who have more trouble obtaining an ID. Making sure everyone has proper documentation isn't just about voting. It's about a good practice.

It is with this I offer you an olive branch in the spirit of bipartisanship, friend.

There's nothing wrong with voter ID laws. From a practical standpoint if you want to be a part of today's society, you should get a freaking ID. Get with the program.

There's many other programs out there where the govt has assisted people in joining the 21st century--like digital TV for example. Can't the federal government help those who cannot easily get an ID, get one? Are you the same crowd that complains the FCC is discriminating by moving to digital TV, and that online commerce is discriminating by being credit card only? I mean seriously. When I was a first time voter at 18 I had to make a copy of my ID with my absentee ballot. It's not a big deal.

Instead of advocating for a more fraud free system, you don't care about enforcement at all. Voting reminds us why we should have a national ID system.

It seems go me its part of the conservative mythos of being (needing to be) the majority. If the results/data dont show it, it must be manipulated by the other side. Rs tend to be more conformist than Ds imo.

Polls show R down, its a conspiracy
Rs lose election, obviously it was due to fraud. "We the people" always vote R.
Negative media attn, leftwing media conspiracy

-> But Fox is the #1 news channel, so that proves they are right!

The issue is that they just aren't needed.

Keep in mind, this isn't one single effort to get everyone an ID and then it's done, this will have to be a continuous effort. Every four (or two) years, is the government going to send out mailers to all registered voters, reminding them that they need ID to vote, and offering them assistance if they don't have one? Why should all this money be wasted on solving a non-existant problem? Why not spend this money on early voting to allow more people to vote rather than less?

Read the New Yorker article that they published on this two weeks ago, it will open your eyes.

...
Tell that to all the people that don't want the government keeping track of them with their ID laws. Just because someone is a citizen of the United States doesn't mean the US can demand that they carry a government provided ID. Smaller government, remember?

I don't think voter ID laws are needed... but I also don't think that requiring them is voter suppression as long as they're easy to obtain.

my 90 year-old landlady made sure to take her ID with her to the polling place this morning, just in case.

can't believe how her vote is being disenfranchised.

If we limit it to types of fraud we wouldn't be saying it isn't rampant. Mail in or absentee voter fraud is a regular part of the voting cycle in some places. Do a little research. Why do you think Republicans care about the ID shit and not mail in ballot? Because they exploit the shit out of them and absentee ballots to commit their fraud. Dem party has just recently started copying their enemies in this tactic.

PS n voter I'd law here in California, yet everyone in line was presenting their ID to get their ballot. Interesting how that works lol

Some of the voter suppression stuff is blown out of proportion. How many of these people effected by ID limitations actually intend to vote?

Most of them aren't going to vote anyhow.

Aren't you RP libertopian? But you want the government to be able to force people to obtain an ID in order to vote?

The complete fucking lack of principal is just remarkable. They'll wail and cry about big government, intrusion, etc. etc., but the moment they see the opportunity to block some votes all that shit just goes right in the garbage. I guess government intrusion is only good when you're talking about vaginas and elections.

No, I want to think for myself and not have people try to clump me in w\ people who share some views with me and then assert that we must share all views.

You start lumping people together like that and next thing you know you're wearing a hood and burning a cross on somebodies lawn.
