People should be required, by law, to secure any firearms owned. Responsible gun ownership isn't permitting access to anyone who simply knows where they're stored. This idea isn't mutually exclusive with banning ARs and/or highly regulating semi-auto platforms and raising purchase age to 21.

I own over 50 firearms and they are all secured and only accessible by me. Semi-auto rifles are in steel gun cases, bolt guns in racks with steel cable run though the trigger guards, all but one handgun is in same steel rifle cases, and my loaded Makarov in a code accessed GunVault for easy retrieval.

Apparently there is a correlation between Christian Nationalists and anti-gun control views.

I'll leave some space here for your shock: [ ]

Also, this kid was rejected by a girl, and his way of dealing with that was murdering her and a bunch of other people. Toxic masculinity: check.

I don't know how he accomplished this without an AR-15. Let's see how long this story stays in the news.

Good question. Do you know?

Personally, nope. But armed officers on site were supposed to be big way to resolve these situations quickly and/or deter the shooter. They have failed twice now and 27 kids and teachers are dead.

Doesn't seem like a very good solution.

In fairness though they didn’t have machine gun nests set up and snipers covering every inch so there’s room to improve...

So a couple of swat teams on site at each high school with at least 10% of the student population being undercover officers who are armed?

That might be get it done.

Hey if there are more kids killed going to school this year than in the military with several active combat areas (true story) then clearly we need to treat the schools the same way.

Double check your sources on that. The statistics may be doctored or unfair. I read about that yesterday but it appears to be a dodgy claim

The main issue with the claim is that there are about 15,000 troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and about 60 million kids in various schools. When you have 400,000% more of one group than another it's kind of hard to compare statistics meaningfully.

The main point is that there should be no kids dying just by going to school. It’s not meant to be a meaningful statistic but to illustrate the absurdity of the situation.

Per capita yes schools are safer than military service. But should there even be a reason to compare the two?

Even with all the lawlessness in Mexico, they’ve had only eight deaths in school shootings since 2009.

I have the solution. Schools will now be like the industrial prison system. Kids will be school prisoners. At best they can shank each other in the play ground over recess. Only the good guys will have guns up on the walls...

Be cheaper to just give all kids a moderately high end PC and some occulus rift glasses. Never let them leave home.

So a student at my daughters school was arrested for bringing a gun to school today.

It was unloaded but rumor was they had ammo with them. Another student turned them in.

Fvck.
