we are all so lucky that trump sat down with congressional leaders and hammered out some real action in response to the Parkland shooting in front of the national media to try and stop any future incidents like today.

oh wait....

I haven’t followed too well can we establish

The school has an armed guard
The school may have had an armed teacher (at least they had an option to be armed)
The school DOES NOT have a no gun zone sign

What have you changed? What actions have you taken that make one iota of difference in the scheme of things? There is effectively no difference between you and those who offer 'thoughts and prayers' except for one thing...human empathy...which you appear to sorely lack.

Oh what bull shit, you would oppose anything meaningful because you are projecting your own lack of empathy on others.

I was just going to ask these same things. I want to see what defenses didn't work (again) this time.

I'm an active member of my political community, but it does not matter what I say, you will not accept it. Your attack on me is insincere just like your 'thoughts and prayers'. They are intended to draw the conversation down to a single person and belittle people for wanting to actually do something, while making sure nothing gets done. Ultimatly what I have or have not done is immaterial. The statement stands on it's own no matter what the source is. It is not about me.

You know things are really f*ked up when you read "It was the nation's deadliest school shooting since the February attack in Parkland, Florida, that killed 17 people..."
FEBRUARY! That's only 3 months ago.

Where do NY and Chicago fall per capita on murder rates compared to other major US cities? They are the 1st and 3rd most populated so I'm curious where they rank for homicides...
Every thread here that talks about guns, someone has posted hard statistics that show states that have stronger gun laws have lower gun deaths. If you don't want to believe that, it's on you

well if you want to use statistics
how many schools are there in the us? how many people in them? how many shot?

statistics would show your very unlikely to be a victim

but being shot is never a good thing.

There is one flaw with her approach. Guess what it is?
Someone can walk up, punch her in the face, and take her gun?

She's more likely to die of hypothermia than violence?

She has to get her robe on over the gun and will mess up her hair?

Not that I want to interrupt your arguing about absolutely nothing but 10 dead. 9 students, 1 teacher. "Explosive devices" are supposedly pipe bombs and pressure cooker bombs.

At the end of the day there is no effective correlation when the base data includes all States (i.e. doesn't omit States with very low death rates and permissive gun laws) and is adjusted to include homicides only.

Do Strict Firearm Laws Give States Lower Gun Death Rates?
https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entr...e-rates-in-states_us_59f0807ce4b01ecaf1a3e838

To get a clearer idea of what's going on, you would at least want to see whether the adoption of certain gun controls is associated with reductions in gun death rates, as compared to pre-existing trends in the states that adopt them and ongoing trends in the rest of the country. In any case, it clearly is not true that permissive gun laws are inevitably accompanied by higher gun death rates, especially if you focus on homicides, which is the main threat cited by proponents of new gun controls.

Gun Laws, Deaths and Crimes
https://www.factcheck.org/2015/10/gun-laws-deaths-and-crimes/

An August 2013 CDC report looked at rates for gun homicides in the 50 most populous metropolitan areas. It found that for 2009-2010, the top gun murder rate areas were, in order: New Orleans, Memphis, Detroit, Birmingham, St. Louis, Baltimore, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Philadelphia and Chicago.

Six of those cities are in states with poor scores for their gun laws, while the other four get a “C” or better. Chicago, which placed last in the top 10, had a ban on handguns at the time. There’s no discernible pattern among those cities, nor clear or convincing evidence in these statistics that shows more gun laws lead to more or less gun crime.

Only works for her. Hot white chick can do that. Black while open carrying is inherently more dangerous.

At least she got to graduate. The black girl at Yale is too busy having the cops called on her for falling asleep while studying.

The point is the cities that you list are actually quite low on the list of homicides per capita (I'll give you Baltimore though) For two ot the top 3 populated cities Chicago falls 18th and NY doesn't even make the list.

I hate it say it but until politicians start losing their children in school shootings, nothing will change.

And that change might not be what the anti-gun movement wants. Instead of outlawing guns they might push for laws mandating (more) armed security at schools, and/or requiring a certain % of teachers be trained and armed.

I just want to say that when I woke up and read the various thread titles here, I thought this was an old thread necro'd.

How sad is it that these threads are almost as common as "stupid things trump did today" threads? I've officially become desensitized to these shootings now.

Enjoy your guns and dead children.

You're kind of dumb.

With the "come and take it" sign, theft is debatable.

City. Chicago is not Illinois. The rate for Chicago spiked in 2016 which is the year represented in that link. You can see the remarkable increase from the previous years. It fell back in 2017 by 16%. Compared to other major cities it is not the worst or even close to the worst.

As for NY... well.... yeah.

He's not scared of the NRA...until he found out they all voted for him, then he goes and gives them a glowing speech. A real tough guy.

I accept it. And I'm sure that many who have offered their thoughts and prayers in this matter are also active members of the political community. Your point is lost on me.

First of all, let me set you straight here...I'm being sincere. Secondly...you're the one belittling people here and I'm calling you out for it. And yes, what you have or have not personally done to help solve the problem is indeed material...as you're the one here who has openly ridiculed people who offer 'thoughts and prayers' by characterizing them as "being empty and non-sincere"....thereby implying that you are in some way superior and actually doing something about the problem. But just like those you ridicule for doing nothing, it turns out that you personally have done nothing. What was that you said about "being empty and non-sincere" again?

It’s frustrating Doc, you seem to be a little right of center on this issue. It would be less frustrating for people like me if you occasionally called out the loonslike Taj or IG(whatever) out on their frankly stupid suggestions of either:
There’s nothing that can be done
or
Hey look there was a knife attack in China
or
Various nit picking over clips vs magazines or what is an AR and what is different about it than a truck.
All they do is divert.
