What have you changed? What actions have you taken that make one iota of difference in the scheme of things? There is effectively no difference between you and those who offer 'thoughts and prayers' except for one thing...human empathy...which you appear to sorely lack.

I think that the point is that the people who 'sincerely' offer thoughts and prayers are usually the ones that are outraged if anything is actually suggested to address the problem.
Is it really empathy if they are protecting the status quo that is allowing these things to happen or is it just lip service?

At the end of the day there is no effective correlation when the base data includes all States (i.e. doesn't omit States with very low death rates and permissive gun laws) and is adjusted to include homicides only.

How about other countries (that do have very strict gun laws)?

It IS(!!) possible, but there apparently doesn't seem to be a will to do so from politicians, some of the general public, NRA, donors, etc.

We don't need other countries, we have statistics for our own country with states that have stronger gun laws. He's trying to twist it to fit historically agenda.

Stronger gun laws work. It's why the CDC hasn't been allowed to research it because the NRA does not want there statistics out.

By 'not accept it' what I mean is that the bar for 'doing something' will always be out of reach for your argument. Unless I use god-emperor like powers to solve the problem then I have 'done nothing'. Debating solutions (as opposed to just saying 'nothing can be done!') is something. Voting for policies that might work is something. Protesting is something.

First of all, let me set you straight here...I'm being sincere. Secondly...you're the one belittling people here and I'm calling you out for it. And yes, what you have or have not personally done to help solve the problem is indeed material...as you're the one here who has openly ridiculed people who offer 'thoughts and prayers' by characterizing them as "being empty and non-sincere"....thereby implying that you are in some way superior and actually doing something about the problem. But just like those you ridicule for doing nothing, it turns out that you personally have done nothing. What was that you said about "being empty and non-sincere" again?

Specifically I'm ridiculing people who offer 'thoughts and prayers' but never do anything to change the situation. It is common enough that this happens to show it to be an empty platitude. Real empathy motivates people to do something.

Yeah there's a reason why it isn't brought up by reasonable people while discussing firearms and controls. The big one being that it didn't really study anything. It summarized other research and stated that more information was needed. It was basically a call for more thorough and precise research as the studies it evaluated were all over the map and far too narrow to be conclusive.

City. Chicago is not Illinois. The rate for Chicago spiked in 2016 which is the year represented in that link. You can see the remarkable increase from the previous years. It fell back in 2017 by 16%. Compared to other major cities it is not the worst or even close to the worst.

As for NY... well.... yeah.

If you weren't already aware, righties have an uncanny ability to know what kind of person someone is by looking at them. They can look at you and tell you if you are a liberal, a gang member or drug dealer, and even if you are a good guy with a gun.
Where they have problems though is that they don't know what a traitor, a degenerate, or a con man looks like but they do know they are very fine people.

There was no mysterious reason the report was inconclusive and the more research is needed but the NRA made sure that congress does allow the CDC to do more gun research.
