The card has a $4k limit, and they send me blank checks which allow me to use my credit line like cash for between 0-3.9% + plus $50 or so transaction fee or my purchase APR with no transaction fees. Might be something to look into.

I just closed all of my cards because they were joint, and opened one single new card. Not gonna open any more at the moment.

Chase private loans:

Provides funds for college up to the cost of attendance minus other aid

Every bank has a line like this in it. Except the one for Wells Fargo which I might try if the stafford doesn't work.

I looked into a personal loan through USAA for $3,000, but the rate was 11.5%, screw that. So I either need to find a new part time job, or get a $3-5k loan to cover me for a few months. Family is not really an option, I'd sell investments before going that way.

What kind of investments? They had a 401k at the bar you bounced at?

Mutual funds, I also have a 401k through my current job (which isn't bouncing) and a ROTH which I wouldn't touch.

Essentially. They don't generally "send" them to you, you go pick it up from the school's bursar.

Ah, ok.. I guess I can try that route then.

Well if you are getting a divorce you may as well cash out and dump them into college.

But I am willing to bet you somehow have a prenup and all that bullshit.

Check with you institution's financial aid department to see if you qualify for special circumstances due to your divorce.
You might be able to base your income on a different amount.

Check with financial aid.

If your military check goes straight to you, and the school is only paying your tutition you should still be able to atleast get an unsubsidized stafford loan. Because they go off of cost of attendance, not cost of tuition.

Cost of attendance where I go to school is $18k a year. Tuition is only $10k of that.

Every student loan provider will ONLY give up to cost of attendance minus aid. Some will allow the purchase of a laptop. Cost of attendance is not based on why you owe the school. It is figured by the University and is the estimated dollar amount it takes to cover tuition, room & board, transportation and misc personal expenses for a 9 month period of time in the city the university is located in.

Not sure where you go to school but the various Univerisity Of Illinosis cost of attendance range from $19k-$24k.

Not if you live in Illinois

They didn't need anything, they let me estimate it and sent me the check.

Teri loans are not doing any loans now....they were the company that distributed to other banks to give loans and I think they were one of the only ones that gave you the check directly.
