Glad to hear from you after your surgery Mark! Sorry to hear about your deafness in one ear. I pray you will recover.

The deafness is permanent, since they cut the nerve (apparently had to) And since its a nerve, a hearing aid will do nothing.

But they says my dizzyness will dwindle over time. I hope so, since I can't stand upright now.

I watched 50/50 and I'm glad your Schwannoma was benign. Probably had to sever the nerve to remove the cancerous Schwann cells from the area?

yup thats what I was told. Also, my jugular in the wrong place, and that complicated the surgery

Must mean he was put together by men. Real men don't use instruction manuals, right? . I almost forgot about all the biology and neuroscience/neurobiology classes I took in college... I try not to think about them. You learn to fear how fragile we really are, when you learn how precarious equilibrium in our systems really is.

Can the nerve not even possibly grow back together? I know in some cases nerves can, or did they have to remove a significant section of it?
Is the dizzyness due to the cut nerve & your brain learning to cope to balance with just 1 'connected' ear?
Is the lost appetite 'just' a side affect of the surgery or are meds making you feel unwell?

They had to cut out the "tumor" technically called a "Schwanoma", and to to that apparently much of the nerve was cut, and can not grow back. And yes to the dizziness, the brain must learn to work on one balance nerve.

As for the appetite, its back, but all food tastes different now. I think they nipped one of the other nerves. There is a facial nerve in the same bundle as the balance and hearing, and I knew that, but they said nothing of taste tied to that.

Antibiotics can eliminate taste and aroma by killing bacteria in the nose and mouth. My taste is slowly coming back since treatment was completed a couple of weeks ago.

I hope your taste loss is such a side effect. Best wishes for a full recovery.

No drugs at all for 2 days, and antibiotics was never in the list before when I was.

Thanks for the link ! Only problem is I am missing about an inch of my nerve, and these just repaired a damaged nerve.

Now if I could just stand up straight....
