I'm avoiding this thread and news because I'm timeshifting. I hit this thread the other day and got a spoiler that Mikaela had fallen again. So, I'm not coming here until I catch up, which will be after it's over. I am planning to skip a lot of events. Oh, and almost all commercials and plenty of the hype.

Kids are buying new albums on cassette tapes again, so maybe they'll return to forums too
Oh yea, my friend is a huge music buff and vinyl sales across the industry is skyrocketing.

All pop artists release music now in ALL formats:
- digital
- cd
- tape
- vinyl

I don't get it, really. I have two turntables and hundreds of LPs, but playing an LP is a PITA compared to CDs and I don't think they sound better. LPs get scratchy, accumulate dust/dirt.

If I have the choice I'll always buy a CD. I have cassette player/recorders too.

I hear that publishing vinyl has been very difficult in recent times. The wait times are very long to get your record pressed. Not so with CDs.

Yes, there are relatively few record pressing plants still operating.

For many listeners, it's more about the act of deliberate listening, the ritual of getting out the record and playing it. A lot of them are kids who grew up in a post-Napster era, and with (dare I say) lesser quality music (in more than one way), so rather than it being a commoditized, throwaway experience, it brings it to the realm of the tangible.

Just like many of the talking points about the general public, vinyl seekers don't care about its degrading quality.

It's all swag, fun, and cool.

Us nerd forumers think way too much on this (small minority) on cd vs vinyl.

Can you demystify these comments? I read them twice and still don't comprehend them.

And no one cares... doesn't change the reality of what I wrote.

Oh didn't mean to argue against you since you are right that they are dying and social media is taking over, I guess it came across that way. I'm just more baffled by how forums are dying, because they are superior.

Does anyone actually give a shit about these sporting events anymore (hyperbolic, of course some people care but viewship has been at all time lows)? I gave up a long time ago and more and more people I interact with have been much more muted about it.

I feel like one of the best things to come from the pandemic was the waning interest in sports culture.
This forum may be dying, but the Super Bowl isn't. Viewership was up 16% over last year:

Still looking to be quite a bit lower than the peak years back iin 2015-2017.

And we should all know saying something is doing better than 2020-21 is basically a mulligan by now.

That being said, hard to argue with 1/3 of the US population watching the game to stick with my original proposition "no one watches anymore".

With about 112M viewers, Super Bowl 56 goes down as the 3rd most viewed domestic broadcast of all time:

The SB is the most watched TV broadcast in any given year, except the finale of M*A*S*H* in 1983. Network TV just doesn't have the cultural relevance that it had decades ago, but the Super Bowl itself has remained its most bankable property.

Gone are the days of "bulk beef" threads. I mean we were talking alternator sized cuts of meat.
