Does anyone have the Antec 180 case and the fanless Phantom PSU? If so, did you have to remove the bottom fan so that the PSU would fit? Just want to make sure i'm not mising something here. Thanks.

Got one. Take the fan out when installing ANY PSU, then put it back in afterwards. Replaced the 38mm fan with a Nexus (quieter fan), works great.

Welcome gryfon to "the AT." The bottem fan and cage is easily removed. I axed the cage and softmounted a Nexus down there. It does work nicely.

The cables that run out of the back of the PSU would prevent me from replacing the fan in the bottom area? Is that not the case with yours?

Please clarify. How do cables prevent you from swapping one fan for another of identical size?

I'm surprised so many people are recommending swapping out that perfectly good Antec TriCool. If you have it controlled by the PSU, it will run slowly and be silent. If you don't have it on a controller, just set it's built-in controller to M or L, and it will be silent. I have a Raptor and a Seagate 300GB drive in front of the fan and an Antec TP II 550 PSU behind it. It runs at low speed, I cannot hear it, and both the drives and the PSU remain plenty cool. I'm just saying that one shouldn't replace the TriCool without first seeing how it performs.

It doesn't prevent me from swapping....the Phantom 500W's cables protrude from the back of the PSU far enough that it rests against the fan itself. Thay way, it essentially makes the fan useless because I suspect the cables would continually bump the fan when it is on.

So the cables don't prevent you from swapping the fan. They prevent you even from being able to leave a fan installed. Is that the problem?

Yeah, I think I could force it in there, but I suspect the cables will get caught in the fan if I do that. The length of the Phantom PSU places the cables closer to the fan than other PSU's, from what I can figure.

You are routing the power cables for the drives in the front of the lower bay up through the rear opening and then back down through the front opening so as to bypass the fan aren't you?
I know the Phantom is longer than the TP II I'm using, but I didn't know it was that much longer. There's plenty of clearance with my Antec supply, and I'm surprised to know that Antec's self-proclaimed "case of the century" isn't compatible with their top-tier PSU.

yeah, it's not a matter of going to the frontside of the bottom bay, but the cords that protrude from the PSU contact the fan when it is in place. And like I said, I would be afraid of catching them in the fan.
