If this is anything like thier 300 watt, it will be great. I have a couple of thier 300 watt supplies and they are nice and uber quiet, and I'm running a number of hard drives on them with no problem. Adjustable pots just adds icing to the cake

Will this be good enough to run an AMD 64 3000+, with two optical drives and two hard drives?

Thanks!

If you are asking how the Antec 350 compares to the Enermax 350? Both brands make PSUs of comparable quality, but I would place Antec a bit ahead of Enermax given my past experience with their PSUs. I've built a couple of systems (one basic 2400+, one 2800+ w/ cd, dvd, hdd, floppy, gf4 ti4400) using the newer SL300 (300W) with great success. Additionally, my PP412X (currently running a 2600+, 2 hdd, 1 fdd, zip drive, cd, dvd, gf4 ti4200, and a video capture card) has served me well for over 2 years (see my earlier post).

SATA connectors are for motherboards and hard drives, not power supplies.

The latest True Power that I saw at a retail store has two SATA power connecters. Note that the product has changed, but the retail box has not changed except to a little sticker in the corner. So I would assume that this is a brand new product upgrade and newer shipments will all be this way.

The PSU in this thread is just an Antec "cheapo" (granted it is still better than 98% of the other cheapos). Most likely just an OEM type of product from their product designs of several years ago, mass produced for some now defunct case/system distributor. Okay for "mom's" computer, but not coming anywhere close to my gamer.

So what's a good power supply that you would recommend and personally use?

Depends on usage. For example: computer for wife? for kids? for high-reliability company use? for home games? for lan party game server? Wife can live without email for a day, but try to explain why your game server just caught on fire to several of your caffeine-hyper gamer mates at 10pm Saturday night, or worse yet, try to explain why no sales are being transacted at your business

For me personally, I just recently bought a "middle/upper line" Antec TruePower 430W for a 2nd home gaming & overclocking/"toy" computer. I just did not want to put with all the BS of "fake" PSU ratings. Some people swear by Antec, or Enermax, or Sparkle, etc. [A couple of other good brands, but do not immediately come to mind.]

Cheapo $10 PSU work for some people, but I am not going to risk my hardware or my time using one. Kind of depends on how frugal you are with your time verses money. Or how much of a gambler you are...

OK....I'm running this rig...Asus A7N8X-Deluxe with a 2500+ XP Overclocked to 3200+ speed, 2 HDD, 3 optical drives, Promise ATA 133 card, 3 120mm fans, Leadtek Winfast Expert TV card, and just added a Evga 256mb 5900 Ultra (which needs additional power). I'm using an Antec 350 watt PSU....do you think I need to step upto the 400W PSU???

I ordered it, recieved it, and it is poor. I have had 2 Antec PSs before, and they have been very good (and are still going after many years). This 412x appears normal in all ways but one--it really stinking loud. It is so much louder (ticking-grinding) than any other PS I have heard that I can say I am reasonably certain that the fan has a defect. I will assume that this is a legitimate defect.

However, certain circumstances of this purchase make me question how legitimate ATACOM is. Why?
1.The PS has no 3 pin monitor. The literature that came with the PS states that it has a 3 pin cable for PS fan monitoring via motherboard. It absolutely does NOT have this. Did they ship me a knock-off product or does Antec not make their products to Antec specifications?
2. The PS came in a very non-retail box. The PS was not indicated in the description as OEM.
3. ATACOM only accepts FAXED RMA claims! How backward and awkward is that? They will respond to an RMA request via email, but only to tell you to fax. Are they trying to be bureaucratic in order to reduce RMA claims?

I guess this is up to them to make right.

Until then I have my "included with $23 ATX case" PS in, and it is nice and quiet. Oh well.

Just got the two I ordered today. Seem new and unused/unrefurbed, although OEM as blueribb said (no included literature either, wth is neildoug talking about?). Did include power cords. Both run fine. They seem quiet to me, so as long as you aren't one of those sensitive people I'd say don't worry about that aspect.

Interestingly enough, while both are marked PP412X one has the fan monitor and one doesn't. Both are marked smart fan and do change their rpm as far as I can tell by listening carefully and playing around in bios versus running as many devices and whatnot as I can. I didn't bother trying to rpm monitor the one that had that since I don't oc and consider monitoring apps pointless anyway. ^^

Only complaint is shipping was expensive, although they were very well packed.

Hmm.. so they are shipping two different models (at least as far as features go) of the exact same model? Doesn't that seem fishy?

The literature is a photocopied double-sided piece of paper. It has similar information as is avaliable online.

Man, I need to send that thing back now...I think I will just ask for the correct model in exchange.

Anyone else get their power supply yet? I'm considering getting one, but I don't want to go through the hassels that neildoug had to go through.

edit: grammar mistake

I disagree with your accessment.
I ran a PP412x for about two years and it seemed fine.
I did have a problem with the fan.
It died & I didn't want to pay the shipping costs for warranty replacement, so I replaced it with a 80mm case fan I had. The original fan was an ADDA fan with fan monitoring model AD0812HB-A70GL.

In the lower corner of the sticker it says CWT-420ATX12 Channel Well.
I noticed the Antec site has refurb's of these for sale and I bet most are due to bad fans.
Maybe the batch's with fan monitoring had a higher failure rate & they switched to better "regular" fans for newer batches.
Hopefully ball-bearing ones this time.

does anybody know if this power supply will work in the dell 400sc or if its necessary? I hear the 250w power supply that comes with it is sufficient but I'm not sure.

Before Antec started branding/classifying their PSUs as "SmartPower" or "TruePower" or "Solution Series" they only had one line. This is it. These are still hi quality PSUs, but probably would be classified as either "SmartPower" or "Solution Series" now-a-days. My PP412X came with my SX1040B and has been running 24/7 for over two years now without a problem yet. Also, these are supposed to have POTs in them if you want to up any of the voltages.

Excellent deal on these.

--daMachine

I have the 412X with the POTS this has ran for me in a Antec 1040B for 2 years also. I'm never changing it for anything!!!! until it just plain dies. These are made with the best components and the power is even and stable and the Pots were a Godsend when we used to have EPoX 8K7A's that needed a high 12v rail
They sold for $100 retail before the truepowers came out. I reccomend the 412X more than ANY PSU on the market.
