Antec 430 Trupower overheating help please

Hi all,
I have a retail antec server case with the 430 trupower. intel perl mobo, intel 3 ghz cpu gforce 4200 2 ide hdd's nothing is overclocked. This system is about 6 weeks old and all of a suddon the intel motherboard monitor says the fan in zone 2 is only spinning at 1000rpms , the zone 2 area is the fan monitor from teh psu. I double checked it with motherboard monitor 5 and it confirmed the numbers so is it possible that this thing is faulty or what . any suggestions please thanks

i don't think it's overheating... which is probably why its spinning so slow.

your motherboard only gives you that warning because its programmed to warn you if any fan plugged into it is about to fail.

I had this with my Antec 380 PS, I just disabled he monitor on that fan, Im not sure if it just spins that slow or if its a thermally controlled deal. I had the PS for I beleive 3-4 years and is now residing in my sons box, runs he same.

the monitor gives the warning when it hits 50 C , its hit that mark once in the first month ive had the machine is this too hot ?

the cpu is a 478 northwood and it runs at about 45-49C

Those temps are fine.....
Your PSU fans are speed regulated by the power supply and it only gives them about 5v or so until it reaches threshold temps. Then it ramps up the voltages to speed up the fans. Any fans plugged into the "fan only" connectors will be regulated in the same manner.

I wouldn't worry much unless the fan stops. In which case it has another fan so it wouldn't be a disaster anyways. Just check to make sure it is running periodically.

BTW- The fan in my True430 is currently running 1630rpms.

what temps does your psu's run at under load ? mine is around 50 and thats when the alert goes off =(

From the manual:

Note: The speed of the fan may be as low as 900 RPM when temperatures are low. At
these speeds some motherboards may not be able to properly detect the fan speed and may
generate false warnings of fan failure. Please refer to your motherboard manual for proper
fan monitoring set up.

Various versions of the manual state anywhere from 1500-900

The fan can go up to 3800 rpm. Typically speaking the fan won't really start ramping up until internally it's 40C (inside the PSU, not your computer).

i have a TP 430 and the fans on it harly spin because they dont need to case is cool, this is normal, if your case gets really hot they will speed up
