Folks,

As I'm building my rig, I noticed that the case 120mm TriCool fans don't appear to come with the fan-speed monitoring cable for the motherboard. I wonder why they did that. Any options?

Rig a tachometer or buy fans with speed sensor. I suppose antec figures you just choose your speed and fly - no need to monitor the fan, just look at it to be sure it's spinning now and again.

I would guess it is because they have speed control built in via the three-speed switch. since you control the speed that way, what additional benefit would there be to monitoring the speed?

I have the same case, and I have never even thought about wanting to monitor the speed, I only care that the case is extremely cool and quite.

I just bought this case at fry's for $100 and DAMN it dropped my temps by at least 5*C at idle and 10*C at load but I cut myself pretty bad installing everything and I accidentally snapped one of the fan fins off the rear fan so now it vibrates but im just going to buy a replacement but I cannot believe how much cooler it got my stuff at the lowest fan setting

Sorry to thread hi-jack

^^

I "upgraded" from a Lian LI PC60 to this and my idle temps dropped from 40C to 28C and load temps dropped from 60C to 42C.

It's a little noisy though but that's mostly due to the 6800GT being loud

Yea it's not as bad as a case as people make it out to be. It cools pretty damn good and is higher quality than most other cases I've seen at Fry's they sell. Except for cutting my nail in half it was a pretty easy install.

it's a vantech nexus NXP-205. it's the one that fits in the 3.5 bay and i don't recommend getting it. I tried a little to find the NXP-201 (5.25 bay) but when I was at fry's i saw this one and made an impulse buy. It is a night-mare installing something into that 3.5 small bay. I highly don't recommend it. If you get a fan controller get a 5.25 bay one.

IIRC, PWM fan controllers don't work well with LED fans - ie strobe lighting. Are you experiencing any issues with that since you are using the stock Tri-Cool fans?

no issues so far. The fan controller has it's own power connector also. It's controlling a zalman 9500led, two LED tricools, and one non-led tricool.

you do notice the LED light dim when you turn them down, and brighten when you turn it up. It's actually kind of cool. Bright when it's loud, low when it's quiet.
the tricools are on medium and they do spin up when the fan contrller is on it's lowest settings even during boot up. i might even try setting them on low and see if the fans will spin up to get even more silence.
