I don't see how a front fan could be harmful, as it's just adding cooler air to the computer (long as you keep the air flowing one direction through the case. And yes, almost everyone here with AMD (or anything for that matter) have both intake (front) and exhaust (rear) fans, except for those into noise reduction.

Front intake fan harmful?!?!? WTF? Try the experiment yourself. Remove your front intake fan, put your case back on, and let your system run for a few hours at 100% CPU utilization. Then put the fan back and let it run for a few more hours. See if the temp changes. It makes a 4C difference in my case temp and a 7C difference in my CPU temp!

BTW, the fans that Outpost sells are good quality. I've bought about 8 of them so far and they're all still working.

Well, quoting the above referenced AMD doc:

<< 8. A front cooling fan does not seem to be essential. In fact, in some extreme situations, testing showed these fans to be recirculating hot air rather than introducing cool air. >>

I can't really picture this - all I can think of is perhaps in some locations where there is very constrained air flow (like some "computer desks&quot, the forced flow in the front causes more recirculation than a free (unforced) flow would.

In any case, given the replies, I'll go with the front fans...

in order to qualify as a bad situation under that AMD doc, you'd have to be a freakin moron. how many of us set up campfires in front of the case? anyone here ever taken a blowdryer and pointed it at the front intake fan? nope... thought not..

I ordered two, I might get another. I only have one case fan right now, and it is an old POS. I'm going to take one of the 92's and mount it on the side of the case blowing on the agp and heat sink, mount the 120mm panaflow on top (blowhole), put another 92mm in front, but then what? argh... I have a couple fans off of an old motorola server (486 or pentium, I believe)...

This is for people wanting to use a 90mm in those Antec 282's.

I put a 90 Panaflo in my front. If you align the 90mm over the front holes exactly centered, the case screw holes will end up over solid metal, just outside of the cut out holes. Mark the screw holes and drill them out. The holes already cut out for ventilation, are numerous enough to feed the 90mm size fan. You won't need to make any more air holes. You will not be able to use the plastic fan holder box though. Just make sure you get all the metal shavings....if the case has stuff in it already block the area off with some anti-static bag. I ran duct tape on the inside of the case, and any shavings that got in was stuck to the tape. I ran a vacuum while drilling as well. Got do that for the rear exhaust as that has a dome shaped grill in the panel. If you don't want to drill, you have to use the 80mm.

About the AMD testing with the front fan, I think I know how it could be dangerous like they said. If some idiot just put a fan blow in, and none sucking air out also, it could do what they are describing. For this to happen though, there would be no way for the air to escape effeciantly, causing the hot air to circulate.

I ordered the 2 80 mm on Jan 19th and received notice it was backordered. Anyone else getting backorder emails, the site still shows as in stock?

anyone have any suggestions on something to use as a guide for cutting holes in the side for my 92mm's and on the top for my 120mm?

OK, even though Outpost sent me a backorder email yesterday, Airborne showed up this morning with the fans - I guess they weren't out of stock long...

I read a review of fans and it showed that a 120mm fan output 2 times the air flow that the 80mm do, so if u plan to use a 92mm and drill holes why not consider 120mm> ha? ha? ha? ))

Because somone said something about being in stock at OUTPOST

I ordered a baracade router 2 NIck cards and some 10 rj45 plastic ends for cat5 cables from OUTPOST and after they shipped the order on sunday they notified me on tuesday that the items were not in stock so I checked with airborn and the shiping number was on the way I called outpost to ask what gives and was told that the 2 NIC cards even thow showing in stock really were not and to guarantee shipment to call, but the baricade and the rj45 tips were shipped, now I wonder if they will try to bill me for the full order..

BTW they asked me to check in a week if in stock and if not to forget about the Nic cards...

Or you could just do what I did. Go to Target and buy a cheap $20 box fan, open side panel, and go! I keep it on the lowest setting and it moves hella air (pretty quiet too). My drives stay cool to the touch even after significant use. It doesn't even look that bad, since you can't see it when I'm at the desk anyway.

Course, I bought some of these little fans for my other computers that don't have the luxury of a nice box fan.

with the magnets that some of these box fans have, isnt it bad?? like turn it on and off and watch your screen flicker (if close enough)
