Antec ATX Power Supply - PS Fan Blow In or Out?

I just purchased a 250-watt Antec ATX Power Supply (Model PP253X) to replace my old one. Does this PS blow in or out?

I know the exhaust fan in the PS is temperature controlled, but after a few minutes with the PC running, there does not seem to much (if any) air coming out of the PS. There does also seem to be much air blowing through the PS and into my case.

The fan and fan blades are positioned so that it seems it would be exhaust and not intake.

I thought most newer ATX PS were setup as exhaust, as I was expecting this one to be. If it is intake, I need to flip the fan around so that it is exhausting the air, right?

I know the Antec PS are highly recommended around here. Does anyone have any experience with this model?

I've never heard of Power Supplies doing anything, other than exhaust. I'm pretty darn sure your power supply is blowing air out (exhaust) as well. Also, you shouldn't have to mess with a P/S when you buy it ... i.e. flipping the PS fan, etc.

In order for a power supply to comply with the ATX standard in must exhaust air. When ATX was brand new, some of the cheaper PS' didn't comply--I have two sitting in storage. Antec is a good PS so I doubt it is set up to intake air.

How many extra case fans are you running? If your PS is set up to run slower with a lower temp. in the case, maybe your extra case fans that are exhausting air are pulling air through your PS.

I don't know your setup, but it is just a thought

I just saw on the box that my Antec PS is version 2.01 compliant. Since this is earlier than the 2.1 ATX Spec in which stated that ATX PS's should blow out:

Two Questions:

(1)Since it is an older 2.01 compliant PS, is it that bad? I mean should I try to get a new compliant 2.1 PS?

(2)Because of the version 2.01 PS, the fan is most likely blowing in, right? I think I am about to flip the fan around and see what happens. . .

Any more suggestion?? . . . I will let you know what comes out of it . . .

PP253X the fan blows out (ie exhausts air).
ATX 2.01 is the current most adopted standard.
ATX 1.01 had the power supply drawing air into the system. 2.01 changed that so that it could either way. Most power supply exhaust.
ATX 2.03 is a newer standard but I haven't read enough to know what the differences are.

BlueWeasel,

The Antec PS uses sleeve bearing, low rpm fan to minimize noise and extend fan life. The fan hardly move any air out of the PS and case. If you want a stronger exhaust fan, look at the Sparkle or the Enermax. They cost a few dollars more than the Antec, but they are much higher quality PS.

Yes you can change the fan out...I got so tired of my noisy ass PS fan, that I snipped the ground wire off and left it that way for a week.

I found a replacement fan at a store and just took out the old PS fanthen re-wired the new fan in it`s place, just make sure you wire it back up right and use plenty of electrical tape.

You can, but it is not recommended. Find a CompUSA store and buy one of the store brand 300W ATX supply, $30 plus tax. The Compusa PS is 99% identical to the Antec 300W except the cooling fan. The Compusa PS uses a ball bearing fan running at much higher speed than the Antec one. It is not thermostatically controlled and noisier, but moves a lot more air. Because of the more powerful fan, the Compusa unit also has higher current rating than the Antec.
