ANTEC case from 2004--Can I still use it??

Hi

Have a few old antec atx cases. I was wondering if they are still good for a build. or if they are totally obsolete?

They were really nice for their Time!!

I guess that is up to you. They offered lower priced cases, as well as higher end ones back then. If it's still in good shape, and you don't mind using smaller case fans that were more common back then, by all means go ahead.

That said, the more modern cases are a lot more modular, many allow you to use bigger fans (140mm or larger), and they allow you to have much neater looking builds. Just take a look at a few of the more recent case reviews and see if the new case styles appeal to you.

Yea, for the last few years I've been using some nice Luan Liu cases.
But in getting ready to throw away the Antec cases-I noticed how high end they were-for Antec.
They all have 120 or 140 fans as well.
They're really nice that's why I thought i'd ask!

Yea, why not? If it suits your needs. I've been using an Antec Sonota that's pretty old until just yesterday.

I went about a decade before buying a new case, and I've got to say building in the new case was a completely different experience and a lot easier. Lots of space behind the motherboard tray for cable management, and 2.5" SSD mounts hidden behind the motherboard aswell. Lots of options for cooling like filtered 120/140mm fan mounts in the front, bottom, top, and rear of the case, and good room for radiators/AIOs.

Your old cases should still work fine, but I would recommend taking a look at some modern ones to see what you're potentially missing out on.

@Campy - that is certainly true. Moved into a fractal design case and the difference is huge

It's amazing how some companies can own a market, and turn around and pretty much lose it. Before say 2004 or so, I bet the majority of people who built their own PCs used Antec for their cases and power supplies. Much like Zalman CPU coolers......

That's particularly sad, considering that one can almost literally walk out onto the street and hire a website designer. A really great website takes money and/or talent (or both), but it's not hard to have a passable one that conveys the important specs.
