HI

Im about ready to build a computer for either a AMD 2gig or Intel 2gig. I dont mind spending the extra money on good power supply. But, I hate spending money on crap thats made in China!! I was reading an ariticle today. The author wrote that theres nothing special about Antec. Its just a power supply made by a company called Heroichi that has been rebadged. I really dont need anything special though, i just want a power supply that is gonna be reliable and put out steady power. U always see recommendations for Antec Enermax etc. but you never read an article where the author actually takes the thing a part and examines the part quality. Or actually take a volt meter and measures the power supply under a load. When it comes down to it; the only difference between Antec/Enermax and the others is probably these companies have a bigger advertising budget. Is there a company that makes power supplies here in the states or Europe?

thanks

Sterling

Sparkle rocks in my book. I've used 3 sparkles; two 235W and one 350W. The two 235W have been rock solid since 1998. I had one powering a 1.4ghz tbird/2x hdd/zip/3x cd/gf2/nic/modem/sound/etc. I then switched that out for the 350W that I'm running now and put the 235W in my sister's comp (tbird 1ghz system).

The only thing was that I replaced the fans in all of them -- the 235W fans wore out and the 350W fan was just too loud (quality NMB fan, though).

You could email these people and see if they have something in a US-built ATX power supply. I'm using Antec and Enermax PSU's and would be happy to have a Sparkle too. So what if they're made in China? The Chinese are doing a fine job on them

There is NOTHING wrong with things that are made in China. My Enermax works great.

those damn chinese kids and their sweat shops.

let's all boycott China.

People don't recommend crap because they think it's high quality, ppl here speak from experience. I have a sparkle that's been with me for a few years, still alive and kicking.

You don't like crap that's made in China? fine! don't buy 'em, no need to come on the internet and knock a whole nation.

Are we now expecting 12 year old chinese kids to make high quality power supplies? is it not a given that china produces some inexpensive and sometimes cheap stuff. And no, China does NOT have the same technology korea and japan have, they are stil "red commies". US trys damn hard to keep high tech. out of China yet buys so much crap from them to make profit of us. and you're sitting there talking crap about chinese junk?

Guys, re-read his statement. He said "crap thats made in china," not that all chinese products are crap. Take a look at any of your cheap/inexpensive electronics -- they're most likely made in china or taiwan.

kinda funny that over 90% of computer components are made in poor asia countries and almost 100% of mobos are made in taiwan.

In case you haven't realized, practically everything that has to do with computers is made in China (or Taiwan, more specifically). One of the few exceptions include CPUs. If you have a problem with buying stuff made in China, I'd bet half the stuff in your house wouldn't exist.

Sterling, where'd you read the article about Antecs being rebadged Heroichi PSUs? Heroichi makes their own PSUs under the name "HEC" and they're not bad either, and they don't have PSUs that are of comparable specifications with the Antec PSUs, so it definitely isn't a simple case of rebadging. Perhaps manufactured from the same factory with differing specifications is possible though, just like how CWT makes PSUs for several different manufacturers.

That's why I bought HEC dual fan 350W power supply for my new P4 system.
It just costed me HK$270 = US$35.

On earth, there are only 3-4 real power supply manufacturers, 99% are rebadged.
Don't waste your money on Antec, Enermax, etc, they're just rebadged, overpriced, hype, good marketing brands.

Who really cares if its made in China? Antec is not a junky company, nor is Sparkle or Enermax.

I can't find anywhere that says the PC P&C units are in fact US-made. In fact, I thought they were made by Zippy (division of emacs). Not saying they're not wonderful PSU's, but if you can find where it says they're US-made, I'd like to see.

Your right about the PS (At least the turbo-cool series) my mistake.
link

The cases seem to be made here Link, not sure about thier other products. Now you got me wondering, did I get ripped off thinking I bought American but could have had my silencer 400 for 1/2 price? A few of thier cooler are made USA too Link Hmmm.

There certainly seems to be a trend with thier "data sheets" on thier products. If it's made in USA they say Orgin quite clearly so I would guess any orgin not listed as comming from Asia.

And Sterling, This says this companies power supplies are US made. But the first link I gave says otherwise. Guess your out of luck.

Don't worry about it too much Carbonyl, PC Power & Cooling makes great power supplies, far better than Enermax, Antec and Sparkle. They do come at a premium though, and in most cases, the 3 mentioned would already be more than sufficient. Its a case of how much overkill you want
