HI All

I just put together a computer using a antec sx600 case and truepower supply. The fans that came with the case are horrible. Their a sleave design and u can hear a constant chatter. I have them plugged into the power supply. What is the best way to get rid of the fan noise. Should I buy fans that can be monitored by the motherboard? Im not overclocking. Doesnt this put added stress on the board? Or should I buy a better fans with bearings and run them off the power supply? Since we're talking about fans, the Intel cpu fan is actually worse than the case fans. I believe I read somewhere that if a person scrapes the factory thermal tape off the Intel Cpu it voids the 3 year warranty. Did I get a bad fan?

thanks

Go get some Panaflo L1A's and replace those noisy Antec fans. No need to monitor case fan RPM, just hook them up to the PS.

They didn't bother me up to now, but with quieter cpu fan I hate them too; I agree with panaflos.

I installed one that came with a Lanboy case and it's really quiet (120mm).

Sleeve fan is actually quieter than ball bearing fan. I assume the fan just made poorly or you have a factory defect unit.
Like others suggested, use panaflo low speed. I uses Cooler Master's led fans which I am pretty happy with its noise level and its air flow output.

120mm move more air around @ a lower RPM. of course they're quieter

how many fans do you have in the case? i got 3 cooler master 80mm fans and when all 3 are running they annoy the shizzo outta me. thats why i gots a fan controller panel so i can turn em all down to minimal RPM when there is little system activity. get a controller or replace the fans. if you got more than 2 the chances are the replacements will still be rather noisy. antec fans are considered quiet by current standards.

I just recently bought an Antec SX635BII case and had the same experience with the included fan being noisy. The ones in the power supply are also just as bad. All are OEM from Top Motor and all are sleeve. Since I had a TruePower 330W power supply, I used it instead of the included 350W PS and changed all of the system fans to NMB. The system is now very quiet, even with three case fans plus the two in the power supply.

I've tested a variety of cooling fans and find Panaflo and NMB to be the quietest at given CFM ratings. The NMBs are actually a tad quieter and have some of the finest ball bearings made - zero bearing noise.

For any machine that is to be trusted, I refuse to use standard 'cheap' sleeve fans. If it has to be sleeve, it's Panaflo. Since I had a quantity of the NMB fans on hand, I used them in my system.

I used two low speed units in the front of the case and one medium speed (still very quiet) in the rear. The TruePower power supply stays relatively cool and quiet, and has a pair of ball bearing fans OEM from Adda. These work well at the lower RPM speeds. Granted, my PC isn't silent, but it is very quiet.

I've also heard that Papst makes very quiet fans, but have no personal experience with them.

Model numbers of the NMB fans I used:
Low speed: 3110KL-04W-B19 0.06A
Mid speed: 3110KL-04W-B39 0.22A

Hope this info helps.

Check out the Papst fans. I had a couple of their 80mm fans and a 120 in my old case and they were great. I had used Panaflo before them and they were good as well, but the Papst seemed to be better quality and quieter.
