Just wanted to let you guys know that tonight I picked up an Antec midtower case from the solution series at Best Buy. Its the KS282 model with a 300W power supply (model PP303X). It was on clearance for $50. Not a blazingly hot deal, but for an antec case with power supply and not having to pay for any shipping it didn't seem too bad.

The case can house any ATX form factor mobo. The PSU should be able to handle most CPUs out there as long as you don't OC on faster CPUs. If it were my PSU, I'd worry about going higher than an XP 2400+ or P4 2.4ghz on it; Not based on stat sheets or listed reqs, just personal experience. Its compatible with both XP's and P4 (P4 use the extra connector, AMD don't).

The PP303X is P4 compliant, and puts out 185 on the 3.3 + 5 combined - nothing to write home about but decent enough. This would be a hot deal if I didn't pick up 2 of these in SoCal a couple weeks ago at CompUSA for $19.99 each. All sold out in CA, but other states might have some more - check your CompUSA's first.

I am probably wrong about this, and Chizow does know much more about AMD requirements, but here goes. Not meaning to thread crap, but just trying to give a heads up to those interested in this deal

My Antec case that I got 2 years ago had a PP303X PSU in it. I just recently upgraded to a 400W unit in preparation for a Nforce2/AMD upgrade.

Here are the specs on the PS303X:

+3.3v, +5v, +12v
14A, 30A, 10A
160W total on the 3.3v and 5v rails

I was under the assumption that the 10A on the +12v line would not be enough for an AMD/XP system. Of course, I have never had an AMD system, but this is based off what I have read recently.

i just picked up a KS282 @ compusa and the power supply in it is a SL300S. better than the PP303X. combined outputs of 220V and 280V.

i dont think you guys have much to worry about. i've noticed people on anands , seriously overestimate the amount of power they are going to use. i've run a p4 2.8 on a 180 watt power supply, and stress tested for 8 hours, with a normal config, of 2 optical drives, a 7200 rpm hard drive, and a gf4 ti4200. and not a hiccup.

as long as its a good clean power source th wattage isnt the most important thing. the ks282 is an excellent case. antec has been puttin gin newer revisions of the pp303x power supply, the originals did not have the 12v connector for p4, but newer ones do have it.

The PP303XP is P4 ready.

I have a P4 2GHz IBM workstation at work that has a 180W power supply. I keep it running 24x7.

But the GF cards don't seem to eat as much juice as the Radeons. When I had my Radeon AIW it wouldn't cold boot 1/2 the time on an Antec 300W PSU. I needed to give the HD's a running start, turn it off, and on back again (I know, not good).

My worst drain so far has been XP 1700, GF4200, 1 SCSI 10K, 4 7,200 IDE, 3 optical, Audigy, NIC, SCSI card, and 7 fans. This all ran on a nice 340W.

I just put a 2000+ in my system. I bought a cheapo case with 300 watt power supply because I didn't think the 250 watt ps I already had was going to be powerful enough for the new setup. I swapped the power supplies since I wanted to use my Antec case.

Turned out that the new ps fan was too loud so I put the old 250 watt Antec ps in my system and it is working fine. I have 2 hard drives, SB live, all in wonder, DVD, and no case fans. Runs nice and quiet.

These cases aren't nearly as rugged as the dragon series.
Especially the door.

It doesn't have a door

heh
I much prefer the newer Antec/Chieftec/clone cases to those of old. Only bad experience I ever had w/Antec was when A 400W PS of their's was giving me wildly fluctuating values. I emailed them w/the complaint and got nothing initially (contacted a CSR that was apparently out to lunch.) I then forwarded all my info to damn near every department they had. Guess what? I got it taken care of pronto! They took my PP-403X and sent me a 430W Trupower. I am a firm believer in their power supplies and products. Remember the SVC cases FS @ $19.99? Antec is good stuff!

I have an ANTEC KS282 which I have been running
with a P4 2.4 on an ABIT TH7-ii with 384 Meg memory,
1 80 Gig hard drive, CDRW, DVD, SoundBlaster Live,
Linksys 10/100 Ethernet, and a Gainward GeForce 4 TI4200.
Never had any problems with this power supply (PP303XP)
handling the load.
