I think thats a bit overkill for your system there, you could probably get away with a quality 300W powering your system

i had a 420 or 430 or somthing enermax, have to look when i get home and was not sure if it was going bad or not, switched it with a superflower and hooked most back up, but want a good p/s, hope this does the trick, also might add some hd's in the future if they keep falling in price.

You'd be surprised at the number of companies that "rebadge" things.

I don't even think that Antec ever made their own PSU's, from what I recall they always rebadged other companies power supplies (correct me if I'm wrong)

Well I got my Neo HE 550 today in the mail following this deal and on my barcode it says 0609 so that means its the last revision right? So this is pretty much guaranteed to work with an asus board?

Mine pre-failed (DOA). As far as I'm concerned Antec offerss some great PSU's but the NEO line is questionable. I rma'd my dead NEO for another and was then having random shutdowns. During a long and drawn out conversation with a mobo tech at ASUS he suddenly said "Damnit! I bet you have an Antec NEO don't you?"

Problem solved by replacing the Neo with an Antec Phantom.

I find it interesting how (mostly) Asus boards are the only ones affected but it's Antec's fault. How soon we forget about the Seasonic / DFI issues that were a big problem as well.

I have one of these firing a geeks.com $43 MSI board with an FX-55 and a 7950 GTO, and the thing shuts down hard and refuses to start back up for some time. I've got a feeling this is a thermal overload at the PSU but I haven't nailed it down yet. Pulling the side off the case seems to eliminate it.

It looks like all of the case fans blow out (they were installed as such in the case when i bought it) which may be stalling the NEO550 PSU fan. It is very quiet so it's not hard to imagine a small pressure delta in the wrong direction causing grief. This might make the PSU more susceptible to bad case setups.

I just noticed I registered same day as amdskip but I am 19700+ posts behind. Better get busy!

I think a lot of it has to do with their decision to eliminate the -5v rail/pin. Look at the 24-pin connector for the motherboard and notice the missing pin.

I've never seen anyone in the industry adapt a "standard" as fast as Antec did Intel's ATX 2.2 standard (which, of course, isn't backward compatible with motherboards that require/expect the -5v pin).

The OCZ DDR Booster "borrowed" from the -5v rail as well, which is why it wouldn't work with certain PSUs.

Very true, and with regards to power supplies, you can look up the manufacturer by plugging in the UL code. Some helpful links:

Discover Your Power Supply Manufacturer
UL Certification Directory

As for the Asus/NeoHE issue, newer revisions are supposed to have rectified the issue, but I've also seen a handful of complaints that suggest otherwise, including recent ones.

The UL code on my NeoHE 550 S0609 shows Antec, but earlier versions showed Seasonic.

I have a Cyberpower 800AVR and use the PowerPanel Personal Edition software for monitoring loads, voltages, shutdown sequence, etc. With my OCZ PowerStream 520w (original version) installed the total load on the UPS (my rig + 18" LCD that draws 50w) was showing 198w, and now that I have the NeoHE installed it shows 148w. That equates to a savings of $5.54 per month if I leave my rig on 24/7 since I pay $.154 per kWhr!

Once I receive the rebate the psu will pay for itself in 10 months.

I don't know if I would trust this PSU with 2 8800GTS's. With one, yes, but 2? Don't know if it could handle it....

Antec sells them on their website for pretty cheap ($2-3) but the shipping is pretty expensive.
