This may sound like a simple question but I just purchased a Thermalright Ultra-120 (actually my friend bought it for me for helping him build a new PC) and I would like to install it in my Antec P180 case. There is not much room behind my PC case as it is against the wall so I am not sure what would be the best way for me to position the fan. Since there is no power supply above the motherboard, my idea was to have the fan blowing from the bottom of the case through the fins to the top of the case so that it can escape through the top vent on the P180 case. Does this sound like the best idea? Thank you in advance.

Nevermind. The heatsink would not fit in the position I wanted to I have the fan blowing into the fins pointing towards the back of the case.

Just so you know for future reference... it's a Thermaright Ultra 120, not made by Thermaltake.

Renozi...not with my motherboard

I like this fan. Wife thought I was crazy

Me: "Come take a look at how big this new fan I got is"
Wife: "Why do you keep having computer problems that requires you to always be working on your computer?"
Me: "I don't have computer problems. I just like playing with my computer"
Wife: "Yeah it is big. Was your computer overheating before?"
Me: "No."
Wife: "Then why did you replace it"
Me: "So that my computer can run cooler."
Wife: "I see"

hahahah AmdInside, I can totally relate to you man! My mom and my girlfriend always ask me why my computer is on the ground all opened up!
They always ask is it broken? And my mom goes no one else takes apart their computer that much! LOL so I feel you man!
That's what we get for loving computers! And sorry to here your motherboard doesn't support that position.

How is that heatsink in the P180? I just got the P182 and I am looking to replace my zalman 9500 with the thermalright 120 ultra and a nice quiet 120mm fan. I currently get about 44C idle with my Intel C2D 6600.

I like it a lot. I actually thought it would be a tighter fit in my case that it really was. I was not able to mount it the way I wanted because the northbridge heatsink blocked the pipes so I had to mount it the way you see in the picture below:

Antec P180 with Thermalright Ultra 120

I am using a 120mm Scythe S-FLEX with it. There is also an eVGA Geforce 8800GTS, Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, Audigy 2ZS, ATI HDTV Wonder, two DVD drives, 3 hard drives, 2 x 1GB Corsair DDR2 memory and a OCZ 700watt power supply. Oh yeah, and a floppy drive.

The great thing is that since I own a wedding photography business, some of my computer upgrades I get to write off when doing my taxes (the parts that apply directly to editing photos). Although the downside is that I am usually really busy and don't have much time for games

zod96: I have a P182 and a Thermalright Ultra 120 (non-extreme) and it fits fine, no issues.

Amd: you can write-off the entire cost of you computer, you don't have to separate out parts. At least for Canadian taxes you can, it's easier to just include the entire cost. I'd just add components to the cost pool hehe.

I got mine ordered today with a scythe s-flex 120 mm fan as well. I got the 800 rpm one. I want as little noise as possible, I just hope it can cool my c2d 6600e well. What are your idle and stock temps like? I actually have the same MB as you, the intel BX2

I have it positioned to blow upward, so the outake fans can remove the hot air. However, having it blow to the rear would be just as good.
