So my graphics card (a 7600gt) died (~2 years old, and even though it was EVGA, I never registered it so no lifetime warranty for me!) and the 8800gs looks like a really great deal at about $100 (newegg).
The problem is I have an antec smart power 400 power supply (about a year old). The amps on the 12v rails (according to the ps itself) are 14 and 15 amps respectively. I realize this seems to be different than antec's website? So the question is, is this doable or would I need a new PS also (and if that's the case, I'll probably have to go with the 8600gts, which sells for around $80).
According to EVGA's website, a 8800gs requires 22amps on the 12v rails and a 400 watt PS. XFX doesn't seem to display this information (at least as I could find).
The rest of the system is as follows:
Socket 939 X2 3800+
1 HD
1 DVD Drive
1 Fan
2 gigs ram (4 sticks)
And that's about it really.
