No and No.

For a better deal go for the 500w Earthwatts (Seasonic built) that is $39 AR and only a few posts down from this one.

Concur on that. My Smartpower 500 flaked out exactly 13 months after I bought it. Weird crap too, all of a sudden my mobo NIC died, though everything booted okay. Bought a PCI Intel NIC, and then it wouldn't boot at all. Turns out it was the PS. I had a spare 350W PS laying around and that cured the dead NIC on my mobo.

The SP series has been updated since its initial release. That said, I haven't had any problem with a dozen of them, older and newer models.

I went with the earth watts deal because I think this one is louder. I have a 350watt smart power right now, and I can't stand the noise. I also had a 430watt smart power get really flaky.

I agree, Smartpower series has been a black eye for Antec.....
BUT...... and Im not telling anyone to use this but you can get the 450watt version with the Sonata II case for $50 AR with free shipping.

I don't see the rebate either, and price is $69.99.... minus $30 = $40 AR..... not $30AR

Since its $40.... Newegg has it for $40 also... and they actually post specs, unlike the info-lackin outpost.com

NEWEGG LINK $40 AR

But this Antec unit is kinda datad...%70 effecient, two 80mm fans mean more noise also...lotta negative comments about this unit too....and good ones too...so who knows....

I've experience with this unit.....

1. It makes a high pitched whine when under load.
2. It only switches on the rear fan when the unit gets warm, which is a problem considering the Fuhjyyu caps in this unit are NOT good for high heat conditions even though they are rated at 85/105C. Fuhjyyu caps are also known to leak/bulge.
3. Almost all CWT units (SmartPower 2.0 AND TruePower II) start to fail within 8-9 months if you are a power user.

If you're going to buy this power supply, do it like I did. Fry's Anniversary Sale last year: 54.99 in store - 40AR (which came back as 50AR) = 4.99 + tax for the PSU. Total (with tax) = ~$8. Antec also didn't send me back an RMA notification even though I faxed them the receipt from Fry's Electronics.

My current Corsair HX520W > Enhance ENP-5150GH > Antec EarthWatts 500W>> Antec SmartPower 2.0 500W

Quite possibly the worst psu I ever owned. High pitched squeal after 8 months of use. I have owned alot of Antecs but this SP2-500 just sucked.

On a positive note, I am using a new Trio 650 which is Seasonic made and a very nice psu...

Thanks for the information, this eases my mind. I just received this power supply, and noticed the rear fan wasn't spinning. I was worried I would have to RMA it.

This is a hit or miss PSU, much like the IBM deathstars of old. My SP 500watt powers an overclocked Opty 165, 7800GT, 2 HDD's, etc... in an Antec P180 case with no bottom intake fan (so no fan where the PSU sits in the case). It is rock solid with almost 0 12v ripple, no noise, and the air coming out the back is cool. Just like my friends 5 year old IBM deathstar 40gb that is running fine, my SP is going strong. However, it is definitly a gamble as some of the units have issues with the bad caps. Who knows, my caps may be just as bad but in my situation there is no problems due to the setup...

Either way I am very happy with the SP but if you are worried there are other deals that pop up on better PSU's, like $40 AR for the seasonic built Antec earthwatts 500w. Just keep the eyes open

My Smartpower 500 flaked out exactly 13 months after I bought it. Weird crap too

My SP500 did some weird stuff after 20 months too. Sometimes, my mobo would not boot if I had too many USB devices plugged in. Other times, I had to unplug/plug the power supply to get my mobo to boot. Or, the fans would turn on, but nothing else would. About 2 weeks ago, it finally died.

I plugged in a spare 400 watt one and my comp has been working beautifully. I was lucky I kept the Fry's receipt and Antec is sending me an RMA replacement. However, I don't think I will be reinstalling it.

Is there a specific "version/batch number" that will tell me if Antec sent me a "good" one? TIA

Same thing for me: High pitched whine after a few months of use, then just went kapoot one day, barely over a year into the purchase. Bought a Silverstone Element OEM to replace it (had to sleeve cables myself-REAL pain in the ass). I trusted Antec before, but now...I dunno.
