Antec Super Lanboy

Anyone ever think about the air that is being prevented from being circulated by this case? The front 120mm fan is only pushing around 56cfm, then directly behind the fan is a metal panel with a bunch of quarter inch diameter circles and even behind that is the hard drive tray.

That has to kill the air intake as well as any circulation that the case could provide if situated correctly.

Am I wrong?

Anyways I'm thinking of replacing those stock 120mm Antec fans with some Panaflo H1's (105cfm @ 41db) and probably and exhaust at the top. Also making my own customized from panel and rearranging the interior schematics of the stock Lanboy.

Anyone ever attempted to move around the bones of the case? Any tips?

Thanks,
x

Aluminum is tough to work with and easy to screw up, but if you're careful and make sure to smooth out the sharp edges you should be fine. The push-pull config of the front and rear 120mm fans makes airflow pretty good - the front may be limited but the negative pressure created by the rear 120mm should pull in air. The only real mod I would consider is a 120mm blowhole - that'd create even more negative pull resulting in even better airflow.

One thing: 41db is VERY loud and perhaps you should reconsider...

Yeah, It probably is quite loud, I've never actually heard a Panaflo fan in person, but I would assume that it is relatively quite in comparison to a Tornado. But then I guess the point of case fans isn't necessarily to cool anything but to remove the hot air that is being produced.

Yeah I do definately want to make a blow hole, I've always wanted to and have always thought it would be a great way to get rid of a lot of that hot air. But I was never a big fan of the Lanboy look. I like the Lian-Li's look and infact I do have a Lian-Li PC70 that I don't use atm (too big). Plus I think I could situate the inside to where I can get maximum airflow and easy wire management, because trying to manage wires in small cases can get a little difficult.

Maybe I'll invest in some of those Aerocool Turbine fans, those are like 20'ish db pushing around mid 30's cfm. Or maybe I'll just shop around more.

I was also finding the airflow to not be enough, so, I actually ordered one of those panfalo for the rear fan. (The 105cffm at 41 db)

I'll let you know how it is.

I know that the intake is probaly the problem - but, theres not enough room to put one of those up front (they're 120x38 instead of 120x25), so, i'll see what different more exhaust makes.

Also, I'm using two harddrives and an incredibly hot videocard, i'm sure thats part of the reason my ambient temp gets so hot.

Woah.
I got the Panaflo fan, the thing cools like a beast, but it also sounds like one. I wasn't really expecting it to be that loud.

So, its cooling damn well, about 6c difference to every part of my comp - thats excellent.

The sound though, damn, i won't be able to stand it for long.

Is there an easy way to lower the voltage on that thing? I can deal with less cooling if i can make it so that I can actually hear my speaker - it even drowns out my rocket cooler pro at max. (I was expecting it to be equal, not more!)

Can you reccomend a fan controller that'll fit in a 3.5inch slot that'll look good with the Super Lanboy?
I only have the front/rear and CPU fan to worry about. (Is there going to be a problem exchanging the Gigabyte fan controller for the CPU fan with something else?)
-I really don't see any reason to even connect the front fan to the thing, it spins perfect at the moment.

Don't really need anything fancy - no need for temp sensors, digital display, just some easy way to change the fan speeds.

Thats what I was looking at. I think i might just go ahead and order it, the case isn't bad if i drown it out, but, i'm sure it'll bug me to hell and back when i try to sleep.

Anyone have anything bad to say about that particular speed controller? It looks almost too perfect for my situation to be true.

(Aliminum - blue glow, 4 fans, easy to setup, made for high CFM fans, 3.5inch)

I have this installed in my Super Lanboy.
http://www.svc.com/ald-v01-u1-19.html

I have installed it a little bit back so that I can still close the cover on the optical drives.
No problem. The only thing I am not happy about this is that when I turn on the PC, it comes on with the red color. No matter what I set it to when I power down.
Other than that, no problems.

I used my Dremel and removed the grid behind the front fan. I also used the Dremel and drilled lots of holes in the hard drive cage. i have installed my only two hard drives at the very top and very bottom to allow air to flow through the holes.

My temperatures are low and it is quiet.

How well does an average dremel with average bits cut through the Lanboy's aluminum frame and panels? I would think fairly easy, the aluminum is rather thin and flimsy.

I'm still trying to design an innovative way to slove the circulation problem but its rather hard with many ideas taken and the lack of space the small case provides.

You can remove the grid behind the front intake fan in 10 minutes.
Drilling holes in the hard drive cage took longer because I had to tape newspaper all over the motherboard and everything else to avoid sprinkling them with aluminum particles!

I have the two 120mm case fans and my graphics card fan and a 90mm fan that I have on a bracket connected to the fan controller.
I have reduced the speed of the two 120mm fans. yet, my CPU P4C 2.6G runs at 30 at idle and 47 when running prime95.
It is pretty quiet.

I have a cheap wired Dremel. It is very easy to work on this case with it.

I'll probably throw my stuff in my Lian Li when I start to modify my Lanboy. Bending the aluminum cover I'm making will be the interesting part.
