Antec SX1030 Questions

I think I have decided on the Antec SX1030 in black from Onvia as the case for my new comp. First, I have a few questions though. Can I remove the lower HD tray and put 1 hard drive and 1 floppy drive in the top HD tray with a space in the middle? This way I hope to free up the top fan to provide better airflow, and 1 IBM 30gb deskstar 7200rpm shouldn't get too hot should it? Also, how is the airflow in the front of the case? Is it sufficient? or would it be smart to break out a drill or dremel and cut some more holes to get more air to the 2 fans? Same question for the back also.

I will replace the 2 stock fans and add 2 more to fill up all 4 80mm fan ports, and I read that I will need 4-pin fans. What type of fan would be the best? I like Panaflo, and something in the 36 dB range (not too loud, and not too quiet) would be perfect. Also, where is the cheapest place to get these?

Finally, in general how does everyone that owns this case like it? Also, how has buying from Onvia been for people that have bought it there? Is there a better store with free shipping? Thanks for your time.

Yes.

They get warm, but that case will cool it nicely

how is the airflow in the front of the case? Is it sufficient?

Airflow is great in the front! You may want to remove the metal guards with the holes behind the bezel for better airflow.

What type of fan would be the best?

Panaflo's are the best

Got mine at Onvia, took 24hrs to get it in CA with free shipping. Great company, will get my business again! As for the case, I have the SX830 and it came with the 1030 drive cage too and I LOVE it!!!

The mounting for the fan in the hd holder is attached. Not sure if you remove it if you can still mount it, so you might be limited to three fans. But why do you want to remove it anyway? Is it a interference prob? If not you could leave it in and use it or not. HTH

From what I've seen they have pretty decent customer support. I've seen people on both this Anandtech forum and on HardOCP forum with the name AntecCSR that help out with Antec questions. Now, I haven't seen Addtronics, Chenbro, Lite-on, Enlight, IN-win, etc. etc. do this. But really, if you don't count the PSU how much customer service can you need with a case? Just don't sit on it.

I expect some with power supplies. Mine is running out of spec, and they haven't answered four emails over a period of three weeks. I'm running into more and more people who have had the same experience with Antec "customer support".

I have bought from Onvia a couple of times. Great service and great prices on some merchandise. Am personly debating on the SX830 or SX1030 from them, can't beat those prices.

Running my 1030 with 4 panaflos. Cooling is great and its relatively quiet. Love this case.

I've had great service from antec before. They returned my emails promptly and even shipped a replacement part to me for free. Can't get better than that. . But haven't dealt with them lately, so maybe things have changed. Hope not though, that would be a shame.

If I was you Playmaker I would just leave the bottom drive tray empty. Taking it out eliminates one fan position as the fan holder for that position is in the drive tray. I also second the recomendation for Panaflo's. If you aren't concerned about noise that much you can go with the M1A, moves more air than the L1A but is also a little louder.

Antec is having trouble keeping up with the demand for these cases, so get one while you can. I have an 830 and I think it's great.

onvia just cancelled my order for the antec sx1030b that I placed on the 20th of december. they said they weren't getting any more. anyone want to let me in on their little secret of how they can have an item go up in price since I ordered it at 91.xx, but was never in stock, and still show "in stock" on the item's page?
