I'm building my first PC and I'm just getting to know my new SX830 and I have a few general questions.

1. Where's the best place for the hard drive? I would like to place it in the bottom bay where I have an extra fan but it sticks out too far because of the fan so I currently have it in the middle of the top bay. Would it be better to be in the bay with the fan?

2. How can the floppy 4 pin power connectors be used? Do I have to use the one that is connected to the 4 pin power connector that I'm using for the hard drive? or can I use it alone with nothing being used by the other 4 pin connector? I was just wondering because it's a stretch getting the 4pin connector from my hard drive to the floppy drive. I suppose I could move the hard drive up to the top of the top slot to give me some more slack?

Thanks for your help

Do you have a hard drive that must absolutely need a fan blowing on it? I have mine in the top cage at the bottom of that cage. It gets plenty of air to cool it.
You can use any 4 pin power connectors you like. I have one going to hte hard drive area for the hard drive, one for the cdrom area and a set going to the fans in the back of the case.

Thanks! No I don't think I need a fan blowing on my hard drive so I will keep it where it is. It's an IBM 60gig ATA/100 7200 RPM drive. It should get plenty of air. Thanks again

Sounds like you got one of the SX830's with the bonus drive cage. It's actually only supposed to have one removeable cage but lots of recent cases were shipped with 2. My HD is also in the middle of the upper bay, I figured it's better to have airflow around it rather than to move it to the top of the bay just to save a power plug.

I found a way to mount drives in that lower cage with a fan in it by trimming the big handle part of the fan holder. I just cut off about 1/2 inch so it was flush with the inside face of the fan. After that, mount the drive in the middle of the cage and it will have tons of airflow around it. The 1030's apparently have a different fan holder that clips into the drive cage itself. I've also heard of someone putting a 92MM fan in the cage with no need for any mounting hardware. The floppy drive can have its own connector if you can't make it work any other way. The power supply has lots of connectors so you shouldn't run out of them any time soon.
