Antec TruePower Conflict w/ AV8 MB

Just tought I'd pass this info along. The older Antec TruePower PSU's have a problem working with AV8 motherboards. I have an Abit AV8 that goes into a repeating boot loop. I contacted Antec, and this is what they said:

Hi Alan,

That is a known issue with the Abit AV8 motherboard. Please call us at 800-222-6832 to obtain an RMA cross shipment.

RMA it and sell the new one they give you on ebay. Buy a Pc POwer and Cooling Turbo Cool 510 and kiss all power related troubles good by forever. If a new connection is needed PC Power and Cooling can upgrade existing units for a small fee to what ever you need.

Crap, I was planning on using my TruePower 430 with the K8N Neo 2 Plat I have coming in the mail...

Mine is a TruePower 430.

It runs most of the time, but will just spontaneously reboot.

Check out this link. Tweak Town discovered this issue during a review and found a conflict with the Antec TruPower line and the Abit AV8 and MSI K8N NEO2 boards. Click on this link and scroll down to the italicized text.

In that article Antec admitted that they found out where the conflict was with the Abit board. Not sure if they ever discovered a problem with the MSI. In my case I'm using an Antec True 480 power supply with my MSI K8N NEO2 and am not having this problem so it seems to be very hit & miss.

By the way, Antec claims to have fixed this issue so you should only see it with older power supplies.

It should be the maker of the motherboards' responsiblity to fix this issue not the PSU maker since this problem only exists with this motherboard. In my eyes Antec is not at fault.

I have the TruePower 550 ATX

I've got both a True 550 & True 480. The 480 is actually tighter on the rails than the 550.

Antec got back to me today.

They are offering to cross ship me a new PSU. They "DID" make a change based on problems with the AV8 and K8N motherboards. I can only speak for the Antec True 430, but if you want details of their email to me, drop me a personal message.

Any word on if there is also a problem with Asus A8V motherboards?
Mine isn't posting, and it's driving me nuts.

Of course it figures that I voided my warrantee on my powersupply by replacing a dead fan.

I have this problem with my antec 480true blue... Vstrom... apparently its a random issue, if you get it you'll know cuz the reebooting issue will annoy the hell out of you

I'm getting the same issue. I have an ABIT AV8 with a TruePower 380. I also emailed Antec and am waiting to see what they say. How hard is it to get them to send out a new PSU?

Sounds like I am going to have the same problem....its because the older Antec models have 12v that run too weak for the new A64 systems.

Example, my 1 year old Antec Truepower 430w has 20A on the 12v....the newer versions of the 430w come with a 26A 12v.

It has been said that a 24A 12v is minimum recommended for an A64.

Emailed Antec and they gave me an incident # to start the RMA process on my psu. How did you guys set it up so they would ship you a new psu before they received your old one?

I dont have weeks to wait for mine to get to them and vice versa...kinda don't have any extra psu's around

So I got my RMA number from Antec. In order to do a cross shiment you have to give them your credit card information and they will charge your card and reimburse it when they get the old PSU. I guess it takes about a week after they recieve it for the reimburesment to show up.

I'm still I little weary about what they are going to send me. He rambled something about a TruePower SL or something like that. I told him that the TruePower was the problem in the first place, but he said that'll work with the ABITAV8. I hope he wasn't bullshittin. I think I'll look for a better PSU anyway when I get more money.

It will work, I read where they found th exact problem the AV8 was having with it, some little 5 ground inside the motherboard didnt like - all new ones ship with this fix.

In the meantime do you think its ok to use the system? Every once in a while I can get it to boot. I guess what I'm saying is, what can a really f'up if it keeps restarting over and over again?
