Neither of them have been accused of publicly lying about their actions.

As we all know, it is the cover up that gets politicians in trouble, not the original sin.

Both of those involved other aggravating factors, particularly Sanford. Sanford used public funding to finance his carnal enterprises. While he admitted to it, he only did so after the press had accumulated irrefutable evidence. I think the general rule is they always deny so long as they can plausibly do so, then admit when they have no choice. In any event, Weiner's issue did not, so far as we know, involve use of public funds, nor was it even an act of adultery. He did something pretty minor then lied about it. Sanford did something worse but told the truth when he essentially had no choice. However, Sanford lied to his wife and staff for a long time before admitting it to the press.

Vitter repeatedly frequented prostitutes, and did so while he was calling for Clinton to resign over Lewinsky, and while firing an aid for committing adultery. I don't recall Weiner doing anything in the past that makes his online activities hypocrisy. Vitter also did not admit to it until after years and years of doing it, when he had been caught red handed.

I agree that the coverup is usually what gets these guys in the most trouble and Weiner would be having less trouble now had he just owned up to it. However, in the annals of political scandals, most of which involve coverups at least to some extent, this one is a footnote at best.

Breitbart doesn't give two shits. He tried to make this scandel all about him. He said he didn't want to release the pic because of Weiners family while at the same time threating to release it.

Because his claims were true he saw a chance to regain some leitamacy. Having them come out now while in his possession makes him a bad guy. That's why he's pissed. If he were really concerned about the effect on Weiners family he would have left them under lock and key.

He should quit. Democrats hope to gain back house and senate seats in 2012. This is the kind of thing all voters punish a party at the ballot box over. As a liberal, I want him to get out of there. Worse than the incident, is his arrogance and attitude. First he denied it, knowing all too well he did it. That is the crime, the lie. Just what is up with these morons in congress? Are they really this stupid? It just shows how "rock star" senators feel they are. More than the job, they relish the perks and that rock star feeling. And that is the biggest problem with these guys. And why they can never serve the people's best interest, while serving. He has got to go. And if he won't, democrats will suffer badly in 2012, everywhere, just because of this little worm. And I doubt he cares one bit about that. He just cannot face giving up his rock star job.
