Butt...butt...butt...WEINER!

There's no "but," you moron. Weiner's already done the honorable thing - he's history. Vitter did worse, lied about it (just like Weiner), and stated that resigning under such circumstances was what a politician should do.

So how come you're not calling for Vitter's head on a platter?

LOL

I think the story has largely run its course, unless something comes (no pun intended) from the underage girl. There are pictures that came out today (again, no pun intended) showing Wiener cross-dressed during his college days, and no doubt there are other pictures and other allegations still to drop. But unless there's something criminal, I doubt this story has legs for much longer. He showed monumentally bad judgment, but at some point additional monumentally bad judgment of the same type doesn't really have much effect. I predict that his wife stands by him, he emerges from his mini-rehab declaring his "addiction" cured, and progressives rally around him again. At this point even his staunchest supporters admit the guy is slime, but Congress' approval rating is so low that a scandal of this magnitude neither shocks nor changes anyone's mind about Congress or the parties; it's just a funny story that confirms most people's opinion of Congresscritters in general.
Laughing at myself over my political prognosticating ability - or lack of it!

As a supporter of the Congressman (I had to rephrase that), I have to say it's not really fair to say he did 'the honorable thing' by resigning.

The first reason is that it can be argued that the honorable thing was for him to continue to do a great job serving the causes he was, and his constituent, despite the attacks.

The second reason is that even if you think the honorable thing was to resign, he didn't do it for that reason IMO - he refused to resign at first; he resigned because of the pressures.

Of course, you're right on about Vitter and his hypocrisy.

And many other Republican leaders, including the current RNC chairman who STILL refuses to call on Vitter to resign, refused to call on Ensign to resign - but did call on Weiner.

I wish just once one of these guys would say "I’m sorry that I was caught".
Kinda like GW Bush saying "In sorry I screwed the country".
Or Charles Manson saying "I’m sorry I’m about to kill that house full of people".
Or Hitler saying "I’m sorry I’m going to toss you into this burning oven".

I think people do not understand the definition of the word "sorry".
Or how and when to use it.

"I hurt my wife and I disgraced my family and office, and I am deeply sorry".
YeAh ... RiGhT.....

Kind of along a similar line of thought, I wish people in this thread would not cling to the "fact" that Weiner lied about the tweets and tried to cover it up. Nobody here cares about that, such that is the greatest outrage and the biggest reason for resignation.

I thought he should have resigned because (1) I don't want someone who believes that is appropriate action to be deciding laws to govern me, and (2) this incident I believe is something that will greatly hinder his effectiveness in congress as well as negatively affect our government's image in the eyes of both foreign and domestic entities.

But these items are subjective opinions while "He lied" is an objective fact. Thus that is the default argument

Got some bad news for you then. I'm pretty sure many others in Congress have similar skeletons in their closet. They just haven't been caught yet. Congress has had many people with very inappropriate behavior who never resigned and many of those won reelection after their stories became public.

Word is that he might run for the seat again in the special election.

If they elect him again then good for Weiner.

Would be very interesting. I'm guessing he resigned for the good of the party-so the GOP wouldn't beat up his fellow Dem Congressmen using him as an example.

I still lol at the people acting outraged because he lied to the press. Welcome to Washington.

I always enjoy a good Washington sex scandal but this one (except for his name and the great late night TV jokes out of it) was so minor it borders on trivial. I mean a sex scandal with no illict sex? "Dirty pictures" that are milder than Macy's ads? I daresay the average Joe's punishment for something like this would be banishment to the couch for a week and substantial groveling.

OK WOLF, CHRIS, CNN, MSNBC.... Weiner is GONE! Enough already...
What is this continuing constant ranting? Nothing else to talk about?
It's sad there are absolutely NO real news worthy news organizations
left in the US. Just this shit tabloid news media 24/7 fox, cnn, msnbc.
And NPR they want to shut down. I wonder why....?
God save the queen, cause the rest of us are screwed.

And I wish Chris and Wolf would get a hotel room with Sarah Palin and ball their brains out. Get this Palin fixation out of their system. Every day, every show... Palin, Palin, Palin... On and on and on. WTF do they consider "news" anymore???

This is true. Had we been a month past the election when this came out, he'd have weathered this easily, assuming nothing worse comes out. Hell, he'd probably have weathered it anyway had his name not been Weiner.

This does point out one cogent political fact though. When you've been busted, immediately think about everything that COULD come out. If the worst that COULD come out would make you resign, do so immediately, because people are going to be digging for it and it probably will come out. Also, after a certain amount of slime comes out, any accusation thereafter will be believed. And Gloria Allred will surface, and nobody wants that. On the other hand, if you resign immediately, only illegal or really egregious behavior will be news. Anybody even remember the name of the Republican Congressman who resigned for sending shirtless pictures of himself?

Hilary Clinton's role in all of this has been grossly under reported. All the media are going around saying that Hilary is a big fan of Weiner, how much she likes Weiner, etc. Its all bullshit, I don't think Hilary ever liked Weiner. Hilary's taste for Weiner is just a cover story to hide her real preferences. It's been obvious to me for years that Hilary wants nothing to do with Weiner.

Weiner and his wife can rehabilitate his image, get back at his opponents, and cash in on millions by going on the TV show circuit or writing books. It sucks that he had to go through this over completely legal personal internet stupidity, but now the ball is in his court. He has a winning lottery ticket if he chooses to cash it in. He plays it right, and he will have more than enough resources to revive his political career if he still wants to be a politician after this absurdity.
