Arizona plans on not issuing any more Anchor Baby Birth Certificates of illegals.

This should be an interesting fight in the Supreme Court. I dont think this law will pass muster unless an amendment to the constitution is passed. However, it is difficult to determine what will happen.

92 congressmen authored a bill in Congress to outlaw Anchor Babies unless one parent is a US Citizen. It is currently in Committee. So some elected officials are trying to make this happen. This is not just one man's idea.

I FUCKING LOVE IT! Go Pearce!

Seriously, AZ is setting a standard for immigration that I hope and pray our entire nation adopts as standard practice.

I read this awhile back and thought it was an interesting case to make...

in 1884 the Supreme Court held that children born to Indian parents were not born "subject to" U.S. jurisdiction because, among other reasons, the person so born could not change his status by his "own will without the action or assent of the United States." And "no one can become a citizen of a nation without its consent." Graglia says this decision "seemed to establish" that U.S. citizenship is "a consensual relation, requiring the consent of the United States." So: "This would clearly settle the question of birthright citizenship for children of illegal aliens. There cannot be a more total or forceful denial of consent to a person's citizenship than to make the source of that person's presence in the nation illegal."

Overall, I like what they are doing, but I seriously doubt they will score any real wins or change America as a whole.
Having said that, its sorta nice I can hate on illegals without being branded a racist in P&N.

Yeah, I don't think this will get by the Supreme Court, but I do think we should look at revising the Constitution so that one parent must be a citizen in order to confer citizenship on a baby.

Make no mistake, the usual wingnut suspects here will call you a racist, but most of us know better.

What if both parents are legal immigrants but are not naturalized citizens yet?

Imagine if Palin/McCain won, this would have never happened.

So you guys pushing for your Republicans to win control again would you push the illegal issue back under the rug for your business friends again or are you conceding this was a bad idea along with the tax cuts for you and your wealthy friends?

WTF are you blabbering on about now? This is a STATE law that is being discussed, and has nothing to do with the Federal government currently.

In case you dont remember it was not that long ago that repubicans pushed for work visas, but of course that never made it though congress. It was a reasonable compromise on the problem if you ask me.

AZ is on a roll lately.

Indeed, go Arizona!

But, at this point I wonder if it is more about a pissing contest with a particular ideological group that refuses to enforce laws they do not agree with or close loopholes. Do not get me wrong, I am enjoying every moment of this.

Now if only states had rights. These measures will be fully crushed by Washington.

It never made it through because Bush and company were arguing that the work visa holders were taking the jobs that Americans didn't want to do. Americans didn't buy it.

It did not make it though because it sounded too much like amnesty to republican and not enough like citizenship to the democrats. The same problem exists today.

But yes, illegals are largely doing the job US ciitizens dont want to do.

That argument is such bull. With millions and millions of Americans out of work and cant find a job, I'd bet a lot of them would be more than willing to take their job right now

There was an interesting article about a lawn care company that could not hire people at $12/hour because people wanted to stay on unemployment.

High school kids with no experience think they are entitled to a job in the AC today.

Thats part of the problem. Allowing people to stay on unemployment for 2 years is asanine.
