I've never seen an adult kicked out because they wanted to allow gays in the group. I am a gay rights advocate. I am also a private organization advocate. I haven't been kicked out of either group!

LMAO.

I am a private organization advocate and a gay rights advocate.

I believe they have rights under the US Consitution and I also believe the Scouts have rights since they are private.

Just to note, if a gay group wants to become private they certainly don't have to let in a heterosexual individual. Its their CHOICE.

Just because I support both doesn't mean I sit on the fence and don't know which way the gate opens or closes. I am very clear on where the lines are. Private means private and that it is the groups choice as to whether you are allowed in or not.

I know that the mormons are now the biggest sponsor of the BSA, and even P&T affirmed this on their BullShit episode about the BSA. However, as long as a single cent of gov't money goes to them, then they cannot discriminate. This is what the Constitution provides to us as law, and I don't see why you're still so supportive when you say you believe in the Constitution. BTW, the BSA tax records are a matter of public record.

You are correct. People throw around the bigot word as if it has some kind of meaning. This PC crap has gone way out of hand. What bigot really means is "you don't agree with me so I'm going to call you a bigot."

Private organization, private rules. Don't like it, don't join.

They openly ban atheists and homosexuals from joining yet they get public funding. Go figure.</end quote></div>

If the funding is for a non-secular and non-discriminatory purpose then it is generally fine. the feds give money to religious schools as well for non-secular purposes and that is fine, at least in general.

point isn't that they are private. its that they are upset they aren't allowed to push their bigotry using government money. and they are somehow surprised they are no longer respected because of their stance and the fact that they've been taken over by the mormons. its just a sad group that hasn't kept up with the times. there was a time yes that they were a respected group because certain things in society were overlooked or ignored, but we know better now. i mean seriously, they don't really follow the founders spirit. baden powell didn't exlude people of color in his scouting group when he founded it long ago when racism was still quite widespread. if he had lived till today i don't think he would still be against homosexuals.

Well for me the boy scouts are the most respectable organization there is. They are doing what is right and I'm a much better person because of them.

Bigot is not an insult.

better person? you can close your eyes when people are stepped on based on no good reason. the fact that the group being stepped on probably doesn't matter to you doesn't make it right. one could argue they didn't do sh*t for you.

I personally have saved two lives because of what I learned. I fully support and donate to scouts and encourage everybody to put their kids in it as it will reward them throughout their lives.

I agree 100%. i hope many private indivudials give to the BSA and other groups.

BUT since they do discriminate (wich they are 100% within rights to do as a private orginization) they should not recieve any goverment help. they get to use goverment land for free or close to it (there was a lawsuit becuse they were using a US park for $1 a year). they also recieve funding etc.

Saying that i will put my son in BSA when he is old enough. i think it has very many postive things.

I wouldn't trust my kids in a Boy Scout troop unless I knew the leader. Too much pedophilia in the Boy Scouts.

while there is some. it is not rampant. IN fact the BSA has been cracking down on it very hard over th elast few years. the Youth Protection program has won awards and is considered one of the best for youth programs.

It is still a problem that haunts BSA and has, in my opinion, permanently tarnished their reputation in a lot of peoples' eyes. I went through Boy Scouts, and I attained Eagle at 17. That said, I would consider putting any future kids through the program only if, like I said, I knew the leader of the troop. Hell, I'll take them camping, rappelling, canoing, ...

Edit: Wow, these quotes are fvcked up. I didn't do anything.

I wouldn't have wanted a gay leader for my children when they were in scouting.

and why did Mandy Moore back out of singing at the last scout jamboree?

Stepped on?

Please explain how the boy scouts are harming others other than hurting their precious wittle feelings.

i agree. it is something to worry about.

but that worry is in everything. in sports, school, church etc. to many sick people want to pry on kids. they go where kids are.

BUT over the years the BSA has done a lot to battle it. but yeah the reputation is huring. with them disrinating and the pedo's it hurting.

and yeah the quotes are really messed up. hard to see where one ends and another begins.

I didn't say anything about race.

If I had a girl I wouldn't let her go out on a campout with a man alone either!

"better person? you can close your eyes when people are stepped on based on no good reason. the fact that the group being stepped on probably doesn't matter to you doesn't make it right. one could argue they didn't do sh*t for you. "

Yeah, and women should be able to play on the private golf course in Georgia...remember Augusta????? Hell NO, they shouldn't. Its private and I don't feel stomped on because of it. I could care less. I am woman and I believe that I don't need to be there if it is "male only."

Whats the difference between Augusta and BSA? Private is private.

I know I'm stepping on toes when I say this but child molesters are everywhere. They only get major attention when it happens in the BSA because it hardly ever does. I guess the Catholic church is a major root of even then? Hell, child molesters are freakin' teachers in the public school system. Its way more common for a child molester to the in the public school system.

San Francisco is the gay capital and BSA has a higher growth percentage there over any where else.

Our Troop does not receive Gov. Funding. Once again, WHERE IS THE GOV FUNDING? STOP SAYING IT IF YOU CAN'T TELL ME ABOUT IT...A discount at a park is not gov funding. They discount for many many organizations that are private.

I mean, I want to be part of MAKE A WISH, but I'm not dying...is that discrimination? Why can't I have my wish come true too?
