I'm part of a young adults catholic mailing list (I wonder at times why I'm still part of it)

I just got this as an email. Personally I think the guy sending the email is going a bit overboard. What do you think?

Catholics condemn South Park episode about Virgin Mary

NEW YORK (AP) The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights is condemning an episode of "South Park" that it says "defiled" the Virgin Mary.
The cartoon, which runs on Comedy Central, features an episode this week titled "Bloody Mary," in which a South Park character claims to have been sprayed by blood from a body orifice of a Virgin Mary statue. When Pope Benedict investigates, he declares that she's just having her period.
The Catholic League is calling on the board chairman of Viacom, which owns Comedy Central, to apologize to Catholics and stop the episode from airing the next several nights as scheduled.
The Catholic League notes that Viacom chairman Joseph Califano is a practicing Catholic, and that today is the church's feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary.

I believe you have a misconception about what the catholic faith is.

simple rule of life: if you don't like the tv show/movie/radio program... turn it off. it's just a show.

Maybe your youth group should be channeling its energy into feeding the homeless and actually helping people instead of calling Comedy Central.
Also, he should learn how to spell "vulgar".

it's not my youth group. It's another one which I have had dealing with in the past but not assoicated with.

And I agree with you, don't like it? don't watch it. no one forces you to watch it. And I know South Park, they insult just about everyone. Heck, they even have a song "blame canada". I take it for what it is. I'm just waiting for them to have a song "blame USA"

If it's not this issue, it's other issues. Catholics still crack me up with their goofball doctrine

I love how Catholics pray to Mary when Mary is still "sleeping" until the 2nd coming. Catholics worship Mary. Seems they forgot some key parts of the Bible.

I am not a avid watcher of South Park, but the few episodes i have seen all had jokes (non-tasteful, yet very funny) about Catholics and religion and jesus, the devil, etc... I am catholic and thought they were funny.

People will always have a beef with something. You will always be offending some one or some group.
When something like this happens, it just makes more press for the show and will encouage more people to watch out of sheer curiosity.

Books don't make someone religious, faith does.
