Anti-flicker monitors is expensive?

I am a noob, have AOC G2460PF and about to buy Acer Predator XB241Hbmipr (gsync) ( I sent the AMD rx570 back and ordered a nvidia 1060 instead) and yes, I will have to pay more for the monitor with Gsync. I am also sending the AOC monitor to a service with warranty still in tact, they said they can at least update the firmware and see what happens.

This is how mild flickering looks like and what I had using freesync, u can read more below.

This is why NOT to go with AOC G2460PF (DO NOT BUY THIS ONE):

So, AOC G2460PF is a freesync monitor, (G2460PG is g-sync version and more expensive cuz the g-sync module)
freesync - works with AMD cards only, cheaper than g-sync
G-sync - works with NVIDIA cards only, more expensive but more quality and better allegedly
I bought that freesync monitor and have it for quiet some time using it with NVIDIA GTX 970, also had problems with it, a lot of problems, DVI above 100Hz would show weird artifacts on display and at 144Hz it would even shut itself off after a couple of seconds.
Using DP (displayport) it worked fine, no issues, but it happened that I woke up and the pc was working and there were some weird artifacts on screen, restart of pc worked it out. I even pluged the monitor right after that into my brothers pc but it worked fine, like the PC caused it but it's not true, I prntscr and paste in paint and picture was normal.

Anyway, that stopped to happen, whatever the reason was... a mistery it remains.
Then I decided to upgrade to new GPU and give this NVIDIA GTX 970 to my brother, so I bought a RX 570 to use also freesync since it's an AMD card, and NOW the real problems begin:

to clear all the accusations etc. I did install everything properly, the amd freesync beta drivers for display, the proper way. tried without, with and with the normal one.
1. monitor is marketed as "flicker free", oh snap it flickered like crazy, when I turn on AMD freesync in amd display drivers software... oh snap
with the amd freesync off it did not flicker tho.
2. watching any video, (any file, any player) with amd freesync on, it flickered like crazy.
with freesync on or off it stuttered the bigger the resolution was set
if I put it full screen I had some weird stuff happening...

yeaaaaa.. crazy.
so I tried on my bros PC with my GPU (AMD rx570 and Nvidia GTX970)
running any movie 720p-1080p with any video player at full screen (lowering the resolution a bit causes small stutters to not visible one at already 80-90% of screen)
with AMD
DVI (freesync not supported), 60 Hz - no stutter
DVI (freesync not supported), 60+ (144) Hz - image defected like on the pic above

HDMI (freesync off) 60Hz - stutter
HDMI (freesync on) 60Hz - stutter

DP (freesync on/off) 60-144Hz stutter

with Nvidia (freesync not supported with nvidia)

DP 144Hz - no stutter

freesync on also causes flickering in game menus
freesync on also causes flickering in video player while watching a 'movie' at full screen

remember! WITH NVIDIA CARD, no flicker/stutter issues at all. but you don't use the AMD freesync then.

All I can say, 144Hz changed everything for me, ever played BF4 and turned around in air and everything is laggy/stuttery/choppy? 144Hz removes all that.
144Hz was the best upgrade I could do.

Even I am a noob, I spent some time researching and what I recommend for a gamer:
144Hz at least
If you have money to spend, go for G-sync. AMD freesync can give u problems (many issues like flicker/stutter and I know that from my personal experience with the "best budget" 144Hz monitor)
I don't really know the difference or experienced the difference with G-sync or without, but gona see that in 2 weeks once my parts arrived.
Anyway, 144Hz w/o all that looked damn good on it's own. Also is a cheaper decision (just dont go for AOC G2460PF + AMD card cuz u could play russian roulette doing that)

Whatever u decide at the end, google model + words like 'issue' 'problem' etc. if u find too many of those give up, was my fail with AOC.

Thats not flickering, thats the video signal dropping out or something else.

Flickering is from the backlight strobing effect on some monitors that makes people sick but isn't really noticeable.

Sounds like a defect in your monitor or cable. I'd recommend replacing it.

You said the issue doesn't occur with freesync off, so its not AMD vs Nvidia issue, its an issue with freesync on that monitor.

It does flicker tho extremely when I was in BF4 menu, it mostly happens in game menus, u can google that for this model.
It did also flicker the day before while I was watching a movie (only when full resolution) but then it didnt shut it on/off for some reason, then I went to my brothers place and tried it on his and then that happened... which was a bit more extreme

then u need to look closer, I didn't made that video, it is flickering, mildly
even I had that with freesync in full screen watching movies and in BF4 menu for example, it flickered a hell lot more, but I didn't had flickering like this guy 24/7
u need to read more carefully, I did try literally everything with drivers both gpu and monitor
I really don't care anymore, I am getting my gsync and nvidia delievered until friday, this monitor goes to service, I won't even have a AMD gpu to test after if they did anything good with it, this one is going to my bro who can appreciate 144Hz and doesn't care for freesync, has a gtx970

It's the usual "a little learning is a dangerous thing" urban myth feedback scenario. Dude in this thread might be describing faulty hardware, but much more likely drinking the "AMD suxes" coolaid.

For the record, Freesync does sometimes have flickering at the point where LFC kicks in/out as the fps jumps around. Apparently because of brightness differences at different refresh rates. But again it's unlikely the dude in this thread is talking about a real world phenomenon.

Edit: On topic, I guess it's more complicated to implement a variable voltage backlight control vs pwm or whatever.

Your post really has very little to do with "flicker", or what the OP is talking about. Not only that, your post is a tad over the top, and filled with a bunch of marketing BS. We already technically know both FreeSync & G-Sync work.

But before you ramble on more, here read about FreeSync 2.

And understand, that is what the new One X uses, and what standard most monitors manufacturers are going to be supporting..?

ye, very little to do with flicker, only that connecting a AMD card and freesync on makes every game menu flicker like hell, every video flickers on full screen. NOTHING TO DO WITH FLICKER AT ALL.
marketing bs? u have brain issues then, I just made specific issues with specific hardware I used, proving that the monitor I have is either damaged or something's off since a AMD card makes it go full nuts, but nvidia's card doesn't affect it at all. But it's a freesync monitor isn't it.

Idc about freesync 2 or anything what this monitor I bought hasn't, get it? Do I really need to write u a reason WHY? Are u bright enough?

An AMD card and freesync does not make every screen flicker like crazy. You are trying to say that YOU.... are experiencing flicker, when YOU connect things, right..? So, YOUR problem that has NOTHING to do with the OP's problem... right?
