Now I'm fine with homosexuality and the LGBT community as a whole. But this clearly goes beyond the pale for virtually anyone, and... well, this senator just managed to torpedo both his career and his marriage in one shot while contradicting his own party's homophobic stance (in a southern state, no less).
Also, it reinforces this weird informal rule in American politics: the more a Republican denounces the LGBT community, the more likely they are to be involved in something that's either hypocritical or, as in this case, offensive to any decent human being. Like they have to support hateful bills out of self-loathing.
