I think this thread proves that it does exist. There is a left that isn't liberal and doesn't accept anything but the extremists, everyone else is the enemy.

This is sort-of true, really. Though I say that as someone who has never really trusted liberals, precisely because I struggle to see them as anything to do with the left. The left and liberals are not the same thing. But yeah, quite a bit of the left is a very long way from liberal in ways that can become a bit of a problem. But that still doesn't make antifa in any way equal-and-opposite to nazis.

Edit - also, aren't a lot of the current lot anarchists? Since when have anarchists been capable of building a structure able to seriously oppress people? They usually tend to get their arses kicked when things get nasty (e.g. Spain).

The point is, this isn't one side or the other and it's not about levels either. You re not a fascist because you are against the extremist violent left that antifa represents and you are not antifa because you think that punching a Nazi is a good idea either.

I don't consider liberal left or right and fascism isn't left or right either but when it comes to fascism, liberalism it's the opposite.

I consider antifa and the neo nazis to be pretty much the same bunch of fucktards, violent idiots that want society and everything in it to bend to their will rather than having individual rights and a free market where everyone is equally welcome all of the time they want to exclude everyone who is not exactly like them and thinks exactly like them.

As it happens I really don't see how you can reconcile those two stances either. Unless your animosity to Antifa is more a personal one - stemming from past distressing experiences with some under that label being unpleasant or moderately-violent (the aforementioned punching) towards Lib Dems. Which I can't say I could blame you for. But that would seem to be dependent on seeing that grouplet as far more coherent and unified than it is.

The Washington Post Fact Checker published a document in an earlier fact-check showing that counter-protesters had indeed acquired an official permit for Saturday, when the Unite the Right march was scheduled.

The permit was issued to Walt Heinecke, an associate professor of educational research, statistics and evaluation at the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education. The "special events certificate of approval" for a public demonstration at two parks in Charlottesville, McGuffey Park and Justice Park. Those are located within one and two blocks, respectively, of Emancipation Park, the location of a Robert E. Lee statue and the destination for the Unite the Right march. The certificate covers Saturday, Aug. 12, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In an interview, Heinecke told PolitiFact that he had secured the permit as a citizen, not in his capacity as a University of Virginia professor.

Before requesting the permit, he said he consulted with representatives of several local organizations. The counter-protest was called the Peoples Action for Racial Justice and was co-sponsored by two groups, Together Cville and Charlottesville Center for Peace and Justice. According to the Facebook post advertising the march, it was to be "a peaceful protest against all forms of white supremacy, racial intolerance, and discrimination."

In addition, Dickler of the city of Charlottesville said that counter-protesters would have been permitted even outside of the two park locations specified in the permit.
